The Ed discusses more possible Torquay signings

KIERON EVANS

One incoming that has become likely is the loan signing of young Cardiff City player Kieron Evans. Kieron played 5 league games for Cardiff last season, and then joined Northern Ireland Premiership team Linfield in January. With Linfield pushing for the league title, Evans’ game-time was limited to only 6 appearances, including 4 as substitute. The 20 year-old winger is clearly way off being in The Bluebirds’ first team plans, and with Gary Johnson looking for exciting young talent to mould, another Welshman could be ready to prosper at Plainmoor.

Date of Birth: 19/12/01 – Height: 1.70m – Place of Birth: Brithdir (Wales) – 21/22: Championship, Appearances 5, Goals 0, Yellow/Red Cards 0/0

BRETT MCGAVIN

Brett McGavin spent most of last season on loan at King’s Lynn from parent club Ipswich Town. McGavin played 36 league games for a club destined for relegation to the NLS, but did well in midfield as Lynn briefly threatened to overtake Aldershot. In May McGavin was released by The Tractor Boys, and there was a clamour from Lynn fans to sign him up for 22-23. However, so far nothing has been announced, and with Gary Johnson on the look out for young prospects, the temptation of NL football could be enough to attract the midfielder.

Date of Birth: 21/12/99 – Height: 1.83m – Place of Birth: Bury St Edmonds – 21/22: NL, Appearances 36, Goals 3, Yellow/Red Cards 4/0

JUSTIN DONAWA

Justin Donawa is a Bermudian international (22 caps) who has been playing for Solihull Moors since 2020. The winger spent time in the American college ranks, then joined Darlington in 2019, before his move to Moors in October 2020 for a small fee. His highlight so far at Moors is a hat trick against Yeovil, but a fractured fibula curtailed his 2021-22 season last December. The 25 year-old has been offered a new deal at Moors, so the safe bets are on him staying in the Midlands, but there have been suggestions that the Gulls are making a play for him.

Date of Birth: 27/6/96 – Height: 1.78m – Place of Birth: Hamilton (Bermuda) – 21/22: NL, Appearances 14, Goals 2, Yellow/Red Cards 0/0

HAJI MNOGA

The Tanzanian international is a right back who plays for League One side Portsmouth. Having spent a rather unremarkable first half of the season at Bromley, the full back switched to Weymouth in January where played 19 times. He is a product of the Pompey youth academy and could be the man to replace the outgoing Ben Wynter (hard shoes to fill I know). We have done plenty of business with the South Coast club over the years, and maybe, this could be the next player to make the switch. Manager Danny Cowley recently said to the local press, ‘So many want him’. Whether the Gulls are one of those, remains to be seen!

Date of Birth: 16/04/02 – Height: 1.85m – Place of Birth: Portsmouth – 21/22: NL, Appearances 25 , Goals 0, Yellow/Red Cards 4/0
