Armani Little – Torquay United to Forest Green Rovers
One of the biggest losses from the summer at Plainmoor was last season’s top scorer Armani Little. After 3 years in Devon, Little joined fellow West Country side Forest Green Rovers who were recently promoted to League 1 after beating Exeter City to the League 2 title. They also head into the new season, not only in a new league but with a new manager, former Notts County boss Ian Burchnall replacing Rob Edwards who joined recently relegated Watford F.C. in the Championship. Wishing Armani Little all the best at the New Lawn after a stellar spell with the Gulls.
Connor Lemonheigh-Evans and Joe Lewis – Torquay United to Stockport County
Another loss in the summer was the duo of Connor Lemonheigh-Evans and Joe Lewis who both joined Stockport County as they returned to the Football League after a 11-year spell in the non-league. Lemonheigh-Evans had 3 loan spells between 2018-20 from Bristol City before signing permanently in August 2020. He made over 164 appearances scoring 30 goals including a memorable hat-trick against Notts County last season in a 5-1 win. Joe Lewis was another player who initially joined the Gulls on loan, the former Swansea City defender signed permanently in January 2021 growing tremendously under the guidance of Gary Johnson and Aaron Downes. Both have felt it’s the time to step up to the Football League and have joined the Hatters alongside Notts County’s top scorer last campaign, Kyle Wootton and York City midfielder Akil Wright who have also signed this summer.
Jake Andrews and Danny Wright – Torquay United to Havant & Waterlooville
In the National League South, Jake Andrews and Danny Wright have both joined Havant & Waterlooville after their contracts expired at Plainmoor. Jake Andrews fell out of favour last season and joined the Hawks on loan as they made the play-offs, he accepted a new deal with Paul Doswell to remain at Westleigh Park. Experienced striker Danny Wright also joins the midfielder at Havant after two seasons at Plainmoor. With them being a semi-professional side, the training balance is just what Wright was hoping for ahead of the new season.
Matthew Wonnacott – Torquay United to Wigan Athletic
Young goalkeeper Matthew Wonacott had been offered a deal ahead of the new season, but the talent keeper has decided to join Wigan Athletic in the Championship. It’s a path which has already been trodden before as Dan Lavercombe also joined Wigan Athletic from Torquay United back in 2016. Wonnacott was a key part in Chris Todd’s successful U18’s team winning the treble of the South West Counties Youth League, Wotton Printers Devon Youth Cup and the Gary Else Memorial League Cup.
Marcin Brzozowski – Torquay United to Hendon F.C.
The final player from this summer’s retained list by Torquay United is goalkeeper Marcin Brzozowski who played 45 minutes against Solihull Moors before joining Hayes & Yeading United on loan last season. The Polish keeper will be looking to be first choice at Southern Premier League South Division side Hendon F.C.
Billy Waters – F.C. Halifax Town to Barrow A.F.C.
The former United striker only spent 1 season at F.C. Halifax Town before joining Barrow A.F.C. He had an excellent season scoring 20 goals, with 17 of them in the National League. He’s followed former boss Pete Wild who also left F.C. Halifax Town to join Barrow A.F.C. replacing Phil Brown as manager.
Josh McQuoid – Weymouth F.C. to Aldershot Town
The former Weymouth F.C. captain, Josh McQuoid, was one of three players to leave the Bob Lucas Stadium to join former manager Mark Moseley at Aldershot Town. The striker joined Weymouth in the Southern Premier League Division South in 2018 from Aldershot where he won back-to-back promotions with the Terras and spending 2 seasons in the National League. He’s joined by defender Tyler Cordner and midfielder Ollie Harfield at the Recreation Ground from Weymouth F.C.
Scott Boden – Boreham Wood to York City
After spending a season in London, Boden has returned to Yorkshire signing for newly promoted York City. The striker is from Sheffield and a move to York City was always on the cards when they registered their interest in the striker. He joins having a solid record of scoring a goal every 4 games for Boreham Wood.
Nathan Blissett – Maidenhead United to A.F.C. Telford United
Another striker on the move is Nathan Blissett, joining National League North side A.F.C Telford United after being released by Maidenhead United. He spent 2 years at York Road before making the switch to the Shropshire side.
Lloyd James – Bath City to Taunton Town
Veteran midfielder Lloyd James has joined Taunton Town on a permanent deal. He spent the a loan spell with the Peacocks from Bath City last season as they helped them gain promotion to the National League South for the first time in the clubs history.
Adebayo Azeez – Dartford F.C. to Welling United
Elsewhere in the National League South, striker Adebayo Azeez has left Dartford F.C., now managed by former Woking F.C. boss Alan Dowson to join Welling United. He joins another ex-Gull, Aaron Barnes as former Cardiff City forward Warren Feeney aims to push Welling United up the table after leaving Bulgarian side Pirin Blagoevgrad.
Jake Robinson – Dartford F.C. to Worthing F.C.
Azeez’s former teammate Jake Robinson has also left Dartford F.C. to join newly promoted Worthing F.C. The former Brighton & Hove Albion striker joins former Brighton teammate Adam Hinshelwood as they look to stay up this season.
Jamie Ward – Buxton F.C. to Ilkeston Town
Despite being the Northern Premier League’s 4th top scorer last season, Jamie Ward has decided not to stay on with Buxton F.C. who are in the National League North to move to Ilkeston Town, who will be playing in the Southern League Premier Division Central after winning the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands lasts season.
Ryan Jarvis – Lowestoft Town to Leiston F.C.
Despite being relegated last season with Lowestoft Town, veteran Ryan Jarvis has joined Leiston F.C. He’ll be playing with fellow ex-Gull Jake Hutchings.
Danny Hollands – Eastleigh F.C. to Gosport Borough
Another experienced midfielder, Danny Hollands was released by Eastleigh F.C. at the end of last season. He’s joined Southern Premier League South Division side Gosport Borough heading into the new season.
Niall Thompson – Truro City to Tiverton Town
In a transfer closer to home, Niall Thompson has switched Truro City for fellow Southern Premier League South Division side Tiverton Town. He made the switch after 6 years with the Cornish side.
Martin Horsell – Swindon Supermarine to Yate Town
Another move in the SPLSD sees goalkeeper Martin Horsell join Yate Town from Swindon Supermarine. Horsell joined Supermarine in 2019 from Hereford F.C.
Alex Addai and Jason Banton – Kingstonian F.C. to Sittingbourne F.C.
Sittingbourne F.C. have bolstered their attacking threat for the new season in the Isthmian League South East Division by signing the duo of Alex Addai and Jason Banton. Both played for Kingstonian F.C. last season, with Addai playing for Hemel Hempstead Town before moving to Kingstonian, whilst Banton started the season with Kingstonian before ending the season with Bishop’s Stortford on loan.
Gary Warren – Tiverton Town to Inverness Clachnacuddin F.C.
Finally, defender Gary Warren has left Tiverton Town after a year at Ladysmead to move north of the border to join Highland League side Inverness Clachnacuddin F.C. Warren played over 180 games between 2012-18 for Inverness Caledonian Thistle so is no stranger to the local area.
