Shaun MacDonald – Torquay United to Cheltenham Town

After leaving the Gulls last summer in search for a Football League club failed, another season at Plainmoor was well worth it for Shaun MacDonald as he’s secured a move to League 1 side Cheltenham Town. Last season’s Player of the Year will be contesting to be the first-choice keeper at The Jonny-Rocks Stadium against Reading F.C. loanee Luke Southwood.

Ben Wynter – Torquay United to Barnet F.C.

From one former fan favourite to another, defender Ben Wynter who left Torquay United to play closer to London has joined fellow National League side Barnet F.C. The defender played every minute in all competitions last season scoring 3 goals in those 47 appearances.

Chiori Johnson – Torquay United to Yeovil Town

Despite scoring on the final day of the season in a 1-1 draw at Southend United, Chiori Johnson has joined Boxing Day rivals Yeovil Town. Yeovil are currently managed by former Torquay manager Chris Hargreaves who has also added Chris Todd and most recently goalkeeper coach Phil Osborn to his coaching staff.

Klaidi Lolos – Torquay United to Oxford City

The Greek striker who signed last season from Plymouth Argyle has joined National League South side Oxford City. The Oxfordshire side finished in the play-offs last season and have added an array of young talent to their squad for the upcoming season.

Keelan O’Connell – Torquay United to Weymouth F.C.

Another summer signing from Manic Monday is Keelan O’Connell who after a trial at the Bob Lucas Stadium has joined on a permanent basis. O’Connell played 30 times for the Gulls starting on 12 occasions, he’ll be looking for regular first team football as Weymouth F.C. look to make an immediate return to the National League.

Louie Slough – Torquay United to Dorchester Town

Young defender Louie Slough has joined Southern Premier League South Division side Dorchester Town after being released. He’d previously spent a loan spell at The Avenue Stadium at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Dan Holman – Torquay United to O.N. Chenecks

Striker Dan Holman who will mostly be remembered for his New Years’ Day winner at Huish Park in front the Yellow Army has joined Northamptonshire side O.N. Chenecks. This season they’ll playing in the Spartans South Midlands League Division One after they finished bottom of the United Counties League Premier South Division.

Alex Bass – Torquay United to Sunderland A.F.C.

The Portsmouth F.C. graduate who was been professional since 2015 has left the club on a permanent basis to join Championship new boys Sunderland A.F.C. The goalkeeper who spent loan spells at Salisbury F.C., Southend United and most recently Bradford City has joined the Black Cats on a 3-year deal after being linked with a move to Exeter City.

Robbie Cundy – Bristol City to Barnsley F.C.

The 25-year-old defender has joined Barnsley F.C. with only a year left on his deal at Bristol City. With the chance of first-team football being on offer, Cundy has joined the Tykes on a 2-year deal. They’re currently managed by Michael Duff, Gary Johnson’s successor at Cheltenham Town

John Marquis – Lincoln City to Bristol Rovers

After a 6-month spell at Lincoln City, John Marquis left Sincil Bank and became one of the most sort after free agents in the Football League. The former Portsmouth striker has returned to the West Country to sign for League 1 newbies Bristol Rovers who gained a remarkable promotion on the final day of the season beating already relegated Scunthorpe United 7-0.

Saikou Janneh – Bristol City to Cambridge United

Another former Bristol City loanee who has left Ashton Gate is striker Saikou Janneh. After his loan spell at Plainmoor during the National League South season, many Football League clubs became interested in the Gambian striker. He’s joined League 1 side Cambridge United on a 2-year-deal.

Aiden O’Brien – Portsmouth F.C. to Shrewsbury Town

The Irishmen who had a six-month spell at Portsmouth F.C. has left the club to join Steve Cotterill’s Shrewsbury Town. The midfielder scored 5 goals in 17 games for Pompey and will now link up with Ex-Gulls striker Ryan Bowman.

Ben Whitfield – Stockport County to Barrow A.F.C.

Despite being a part of Stockport County’s title winning side, Whitfield has switched Edgeley Park to joined Barrow A.F.C. at Holker Street. The midfielder has joined Pete Wild’s side on a free transfer, but Stockport County have a sell-on fee agreed with Barrow A.F.C.

Ryan Law – Plymouth Argyle to Gillingham F.C. (Loan)

The Plymouth academy graduate has joined Neil Harris’ side on a season-long loan. Gillingham F.C. will be looking to go straight back-up after relegation from League 1 last season.

Stephen Wearne – Sunderland A.F.C. to Grimsby Town

Convinced by seeing Grimsby Town fan wearing their clubs shirt whilst on holiday in Mexico, Stephen Wearne has joined the Mariners after being released by Sunderland A.F.C. Many tipped the former loanee to make a return to Plainmoor but the Stockton-on-Tees native has decided to stay up north.

Josh Umerah – Wealdstone F.C. to Hartlepool United

After his most successful season of his senior career, Josh Umerah has earned himself a move to Football League side Hartlepool United. The striker scored on 17 occasions in 43 games for Wealdstone F.C. as they finished 16th, the clubs highest finish in 35 years.

Sam Sherring – A.F.C. Bournemouth to Northampton Town

Defender Sherring has left the setup at A.F.C. Bournemouth to sign for League 2 side Northampton Town on a 2-year deal. The 22-year-old has spent loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Cambridge United during the 2021-22 season.

Angus MacDonald – Rotherham United to Swindon Town

Recently released by Rotherham United, Angus MacDonald has returned to the West Country after 6 years in Yorkshire playing for the likes of Barnsley F.C. and Hull City in the Championship. The signing is a real coup for Swindon Town as they’ll look to do better than 6th place this season.

Lucas Covolan – Port Vale to Chesterfield F.C. (Loan)

The Brazilian goalkeeper fell out of favour at Port Vale during last season and isn’t in the club’s plan as they play League 1 football this season, so he’s returned to the National League and joined Chesterfield F.C. who’ve recently lost their vastly experienced goalkeeper Scott Loach to Derby County.

Alex Fisher – Newport County to Yeovil Town

After being released by Newport County, the striker has returned to Huish Park on a 2-year deal. He had a successful spell at the club between 2018-19 scoring 13 goals on 57 occasions, a goal every 4 games.

Fraser Kerr – Chesterfield F.C. to York City and Manny Duku – Havant & Waterlooville to York City

York City have added to their ranks of Ex-Gulls since returning to the National League after signing defender Fraser Kerr and striker Manny Duku to join Scott Boden ar the LNER Stadium. Kerr joins the club after a spell at Chesterfield F.C. after a short stint at Plainmoor. Manny Duku has also signed; he signed a new deal at Havant & Waterlooville towards the final stages of last season but left the club for personal reasons before signing a deal with York City.

Andre Wright – Hereford F.C. to Kettering Town

In the National League North, Andre Wright will look to become the protagonist at Kettering Town after a few brief stints at Ayr United in Scotland, Sligo Rovers in the Republic of Ireland, A.F.C. Telford United and most recently Hereford F.C. in the last year since leaving Bohemians F.C.

Krystian Pearce – Hereford F.C. to Kidderminster Harriers

Another player who has departed Hereford F.C. in the summer is experienced defender Krystian Pearce. The Barbados international joins up with Ashley Hemmings at Aggborough.

Chris Regis – Barton Rovers to Braintree Town

When Gary Johnson took over at Plainmoor, it saw the end of Chris Regis’ brief time at Plainmoor. Since then, the midfielder has had spells with Wealdstone F.C., Truro City, Coggeshall Town, Cambridge City and Barton Rovers. He had a trial period with Braintree Town before signing a deal ahead of the new season.

Jazzi Barnum-Bobb – Dulwich Hamlet to Chelmsford City

The right-back has returned to Chelmsford City after a few years away with Wrexham A.F.C. and Dulwich Hamlet. He joined the Clarets initially in 2018 after being released by Newport County.

Kalvin Kalala – Dartford F.C. to Dulwich Hamlet

Kalala left Dartford F.C. after a brief spell at the end of last season. He wasn’t in the plans of the new boss Alan Dowson and has traded Kent for the South East of London where he’ll link up with Danny Mills.

Elliot Benyon – Oxford City to Slough Town

The 34-year-old has joined Slough Town to add his 14th club to his CV. He recently spent the last 3 years at fellow National League South side Oxford City where he infamously scored a 40-yard goal against his new side.

Sam Cox – Braintree Town to Welling United

The Guyana international has joined Welling United who are looking to push forward after spending the majority of last season in the National League South relegation zone. He was recently at Braintree Town but is keeping up his work with Tottenham Hotspurs Youth system.

Momodou Touray – Salford City to Marine A.F.C.

Touray was released by Salford City at the end of last season after loan spells at Bath City and Hereford F.C. He also spent a loan spell at Marine A.F.C. in 2020 where he scored 3 goals in 4 games and has returned to the Merseyside club who have recently been promoted to the Northern Premier League side.

Jak McCourt – Chesterfield F.C. to Warrington Rylands 1906

Fellow recently promoted Northern Premier League side Warrington Rylands 1906 have added the experienced Jak McCourt to their midfield heading into the new season.

Lathaniel Rowe-Turner – Stourbridge F.C. to Nuneaton Borough

In the Southern Football Premier Division Central, defender Lathaniel Rowe-Turner has switched clubs, making the 44-mile journey from Stourbridge F.C. to Nuneaton Borough.

Ramarni Medford-Smith – Farnborough F.C. to Bracknell Town

The former Reading F.C. loanee has joined Bracknell Town after a brief spell at Farnborough F.C. The defender has joined the newly promoted Southern Football Premier Division South side in an aim to return to professional football.

Bobson Bawling – Haringey Borough to Hendon F.C.

Bobson Bawling had committed himself with his former club Haringey Borough ahead of the new season but a few weeks later he has joined Hendon F.C., switching from the Isthmian Premier League to the Southern Football Premier Division South.

Dan Sullivan – Taunton Town to Truro City

Striker Sullivan has left National League South side Taunton Town to join Truro City, he’ll be hoping his goals will push Truro City into a promotion push.

Matt Green – Gloucester City to Yate Town

Experienced striker Matt Green left Gloucester City after half a season at the National League North side. He scored 2 goals for Lee Mansell’s side before the 35-year-old has joined Yate Town.

Reuben Reid – Yeovil Town to Weston-super-Mare A.F.C.

Weston-super-Mare A.F.C. have also added an experienced striker to their ranks in Reuben Reid who’s recently celebrated his 33rd birthday. Reid who has played for the likes of Plymouth Argyle, Exeter City, Cheltenham Town and most recently Yeovil Town.

Kadell Daniel – Hayes & Yeading United to Folkestone Invicta

In the Isthmian Premier League, Guyana international Kadell Daniel has joined Folkestone Invicta from Hayes & Yeading United. He was a part of the Hayes & Yeading United squad who were beaten in the Southern Football Premier Division South Play-Off final against Farnborough F.C.

Ben Gerring – Gloucester City to Bideford A.F.C.

Elsewhere in non-league football, defender Ben Gerring has returned to Bideford F.C. after he initially played for the club in 2013. The experienced centre-half was recently at Gloucester City following his departure from Woking F.C.

Scott Rendell – Havant & Waterlooville to A.F.C. Totton

Another experienced striker Scott Rendell has joined A.F.C. Totton to join another former Torquay United striker Brett Williams. He was recently at Havant & Waterlooville and left the club at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Aaron Dawson – Tiverton Town to Vauxhall Motors

Defender Dawson has moved up north for work season and has joined North West Counties League Premier Division side Vauxhall Motors. Vauxhall Motors are a side based in Ellesmore Port just outside of Liverpool

Louis Britton – Bristol City to Cork City

Finally in Republic of Ireland, striker Louis Britton has joined Cork City following his release from Bristol City. The move was a controversial move has he spent the first part of the season on loan at Cork City’s Munster rivals Waterford F.C. He now leads the attack with Ruairi Keating.
