NEW GULL PROFILE

Danny Burnell – @dannyburnell_92
Career Summary
The highly promising full-back comes to Plainmoor with a very high youth pedigree, having represented England at U15, U16, U17 and U18 level. He signed for Ipswich as a schoolboy, before signing his first professional contract at Portman Road aged 19.
Was handed his one and only Ipswich start in an EFL Trophy game against Crawley, before a loan spell at local side Leiston. Has 4 caps at international U18 level, with games against Russia, Netherlands, Czechia & Mexico.
Highly rated in Suffolk, and even had a bid of £300,000 tabled for him by Huddersfield back in 2019. Man Utd and Arsenal were also circling around the youngster at the time.
Highlights
Well, if the highlights are anything to go by, we pretty much have a like-for-like for the outgoing Wynter. Looks to take on his man, and can certainly whip in a cross. Could be our key man providing assists this season.
Quotes
Crowe on his move to Plainmoor: ‘I’m looking forward to the opportunity Torquay have given me, and now it is my time to kick on’. ‘I like to get up and down, lots of energy, good delivery on crosses’.
Stats
Position: Right Back
D.O.B: 13/04/01
Previous Clubs: Ipswich, Leiston (loan)
Most/Least Likely To
Most Likely To
-
Be compared to Ben Wynter regularly by Gulls’ fans.
-
Be nicknamed ‘Sheryl’
-
Bomb down the wing, providing plenty of assists
Least Likely To
-
Know the area. It’s a long ol’ way from Suffolk!
Conclusion
Well, you must have something about you if United & Arsenal were once sniffing around and played in all the international age group’s up to U18’s. Not going to pretend we know a lot about him, but we all hope GJ has unearthed a hidden gem! Will have massive boots to fill in the absence of Wynts, but judging by his highlights at least, looks a solid like-for-like replacement. Best of luck Dylan!
