THE WEEK AHEAD

Friday – TUFC Open Training Session @ Plainmoor (11.00)

A fantastic gesture for any Season Ticket holders, as Gary Johnson’s men take to the field for a Training session. The fans will be able to get a behind the scenes look at the attention to detail. More details below.

Saturday – Truro v TUFC @ Bolitho Park (15.00 KO)

A hastily arranged friendly to be played at Plymouth Parkway’s Bolitho Park, as pre-season preparations come to end. This will be the Gulls’ sixth and final game of the summer schedule, ahead of the big Kick Off on August 6th. The fans will be hoping for a positive result as old and new players alike jostle for a starting XI position.

Sunday – Liskeard AFC v TUWFC (14.00 KO)

The Ladies seasons preparations continue with game 3 of the summer. Fitness will be top of the agenda ahead of the season commencing in September.

PLAYED FOR BOTH

Many have donned the Yellow of Torquay, and white of Truro over the years. Martin Rice, Ben Gerring, J-P Pitman, as well as former Youth players Niall Thompson & Dan Sullivan to name just a few.

BIRTHDAYS

Levi Ives – Celebrates turning 25 on Thursday. The former Gulls left back now plays for Cliftonville in his native Northern Ireland.

Dave Caldwell – The Scotsman, who scored 13 goals in his time at Plainmoor, will turn 62 on Sunday.

Memorable moment: A stupendous double at Plainmoor as the Gulls swept aside Argyle 3-1. The best goal witnessed at TQ1 for some years.

Where is he now: Currently a free agent after his release from Leeds at the end of the 20-21 season. Serious injury setbacks has resulted in Eunan hardly kicking a ball in the last 4 years.

ON THIS DAY

28th July 2017 – The Gulls hit Truro for six at Plainmoor in the final warm up game.

26th July 2012 – Bournemouth sign midfielder Eunan O’Kane for £175,000.

29th July 1972 – Bobby Charlton captains Man Utd as they visit Plainmoor for a pre-season friendly.

26th July 1921– Torquay United Football Club is born, after the merger of Torquay Town & Babbacombe.

Four years on after leaving his first spell at Plainmoor, Frank O’Farrell brought his United stars to Plainmoor. The likes of Bobby Charlton, Dennis Law & Brian Kidd all graced the hallowed turf, as over 15,000 crammed inside TQ1 for this highly glamorous friendly. It ended goal-less as Jack Edwards’ Torquay prepared for life in Division Four.
