OPPOSITION Q&A
Alfie Lumb discusses Weymouth FC before Saturday’s game…
Hi Alfie so tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Alfie, I work with the media team, providing the match reports for the games. I also work with Zenit Saint Petersburg, writing their previews and some Twitter content.
How would you summarise the season so far in a paragraph?
Overall, we’re in better shape than last year- with a higher points tally. Things are starting to click in different places of the squad, lots to be excited about.
How’s the clubs recent form been?
We’ve not picked up a point in our last 5, most recently a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Woking.
What’s been the highlights of the season so far?
Highlight of the season? Tom Bearwish’s last minute equaliser against Yeovil to take us to a replay! The first derby in front of fans for years, with a buzzing away end. We lost the replay but it was a real non-league classic that led to penalty shoot-out.
Who are the key players and why?
Omar Mussa – solid as a rock in holding midfield and can pick a pass out from anywhere! Sean Shields – winger with bags of tricks and an eye for a long range goal. Won POTY last season.
Who’s the gaffer and how does he like to set the team up?
Brian Stock. Sets us out in a 4-3-3 formation, but can often adapt his squad to match up against his opposition – so it can depend on the game and situation.
What’s the likely line up for Saturday?
Fitzsimons in goal, Leslie-Smith, Cordner, Olomowewe, Harfield in defence. Robinson, Mussa, McQuoid in midfield. Blair and Thomson, Shields in attack.
Where’s best for the Yellow Army to grab pre-match food and drinks?
Malboro by far the best fish and chip shop around- found by the bridge. The Black Dog is a great spot for a drink as well as the William Henry in town.
Who’s are the best opposition teams and players you’ve seen so far?
Matty Kosylo was a real threat against us, scoring twice with Altrincham. Boreham Wood looked like a real unit when they came to us first game of the season, and it’s no surprise to see them where they are.
And finally what’s your match prediction for Saturday afternoon?
We gave you a shock last year, and I think we’ll manage it again! 2-1 Weymouth.
