OPPOSITION Q&A – Solihull Moors by Tom King

OPPOSITION Q&A

Tom discusses the Moors

LAST SEASON

I’m very proud of what we achieved last season and so far this season with a good start. Obviously getting to the same point as Torquay did in 2021, you know how heart-breaking it can be after such a long and tough season. But hopefully we will push on and go one better this season.

HOPES AND EXPECTATIONS FOR 22-23

Expectations are high especially after last season, but I think it’s going to be very difficult with the likes of Wrexham and Notts County splashing the cash.

PERFORMANCES SO FAR

We are using a very similar system to last year with two wings backs, and that has worked very well for us so far. We’ve looked threatening going forward and quite strong at the back just maybe a bit leaky as we have a new loan keeper in. But overall, strong performances so far this year.

SUMMER SIGNINGS

Ben Coker our new LB has been solid and chipped in with a goal. Same with Josh Kelly scoring two sublime free kicks in recent weeks. We also brought in Louie Moulden in goal for the injured Ryan Boot. Good young keeper for the future arriving on loan from Wolves. And last but not least Alex Reid on a season long loan from Stockport County.

KEY PLAYERS

One in each position really. Callum Howe our skipper so far this season. Big solid CB and scored a couple of times too. Not a lot gets past him! Jamey Osborne in the middle has now taken a deeper role in midfield in front of the back 4 and uses his great distribution. And upfront, it has to be Andrew Dallas. Our top scorer last season and not had a bad start this season too.

THE MANAGER

Neal Ardley has just started his second season here and his system suits us down to the ground and he has such a good rapport with the fans and his players as well. His system uses a lot of speed with wingers and forwards bombing down the wings.

STARTING LINE-UP

More than likely our line-up won’t change from previous weeks. Moulden in goal with Coker and Clarke at full back. Howe and Kellerher in the middle. Midfield of Osborne, Maycock. Sbarra and Barnett. And Dallas up front with Alex Reid.

STRENGTHS OF THE MOORS

So far this season the main strengths has been scoring at crucial times and scoring quite freely too, with an excellent 18 goals this season so far.

AWAY SUPPORT AND PREDICTION

The away following will probably be our usual fans as it’s a Tuesday night. So hopefully just under 100. My prediction for the match is 3-1 Moors. Alex Reid with 2 goals and 1 for Sbarra.
