UNITED FANS CELEBRATE AND CONGRATULATE OUR WOMEN’S FANTASTIC TREBLE
READ ABOUT THE LATEST NEWS FROM LOCAL CHARITY READ EASY
Hurrah your fans’ zone is back! It might be the close season but of course football stories continue on a daily basis.
For many of us the only football news worth knowing about centres around the non-league and what happens to our Peps, Artetas and Slot machines is overshadowed by the appointment of National League Kidderminster’s new manager.
Even now on one of Torquay’s fans’ forums there are opinions about whether the club was right to sack Paul Wotton and will he looking to sign any of our recent or current players?
Since this last column, written on a Brittany ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, following the heartbreak from Hornchurch, was sent to you the club released Jimmy Ball’s retained list. The departures were fairly predictable and he himself, in a club interview, has stated that he has a number of new signings lined up.
And one extra departure, Jay Foulston, was posted on social media today by the player himself.
If there’s one player most fans are posting about is Deon Moore – will he or won’t he or through his end-of season goal tally has he priced himself out of United’s wage limit?
One piece of positive news has been the announcement of the addition of a seventh member of the Bryn Consortium. TUST welcomes Brixham lad and life time Gulls fan Sean Windeatt to strengthen the club’s majority share- holders.
Having worked with and alongside the Bryn guys Sean’s joining them is a really positive development and should temper the disappointment of missing out on promotion for a second year.
Football, as we all know is about opinions, and every year there are some who see the make-up of our current league being weak with poor teams but I beg to differ. No league is easy to get out of and whilst we might be a former Football League side that does not entitle us to a free ride.
Before a ball’s been kicked all teams’ fans live in the hope that the forthcoming season is going to be the big one.
For many, Jimmy Ball’s appointment and the performances of the majority of the games under his control give cause for optimism but Dorking will once again be a strong competitor and Dagenham, under new ownership, look to be trying to buy themselves promotion.
Which key position(s) would you like to see targeted for new players? Send your view to: fanszone.tu@gmail.com.
TUST, along with all United fans, congratulate the club’s Women’s side for their fantastic treble – League champions and promoted in an undefeated season, winners of the Devon County and League Cup Finals – all credit to manager Ryan Perks, his staff and the playing squad.
Next season the women will be playing all their home games at Plainmoor and these fixtures are included in your Plainmoor Pass, of which as of Friday 936 have been sold.
The women, by the way, are looking for additional sponsorship. Can you or your business help?
Should you follow other football stories over the past couple of weeks you’re probably either for or against Southampton’s punishment for ‘spying’.
Quite right and proper say some while others feel Saints’ fans and players have been punished for something not in their control.
And still the 115 charges against Manchester City rumble on without any conclusion.
Arsenal fans, meanwhile, are celebrating winning the Premier title and simultaneously cursing a Champions League penalty shoot-out.
In the build-up to the game, I was intrigued to read about a number of Arsenal team mates who are part of the ‘Pancake Club’.
Declan Rice, and others, on a match day, before a game, eat as many as eight syrup and honey pancakes in two sittings.
Here’s the latest news from Torbay & South Devon charity Read Easy: Many thanks to Torquay United supporters for spreading the word about us so that more local adults can learn to read with their own personal coach, one to one, confidentially and free of charge.
Following our last update we have started to coach two new readers in Torbay, improving their reading skills and their self-confidence. We have also recruited a new volunteer to the team with the skills to find and recruit future volunteers as we grow. Thank you.
While we always work one to one with adults who struggle to read, we also do what we can to help families to read. Recently we bid to The Literacy Trust for a large number of books to give out to our families. We were delighted to support the family hub at Riviera Life Church in Babbacombe so they could give both books and chocolate eggs to their families at Easter.
The family hub has also distributed our new publicity postcard to reach out to adults who would like to learn to read. This postcard has few words and a QR code which leads to a video about Read Easy.
This means more adults can find out about our work.
We are always pleased to hear about adults who would like to learn to read. Because we work one to one they will get the attention they need, even if they are severely dyslexic. If you know someone who we could help please ask them if you can ring us with their details on 07593 223600 or email torbaysupport@readeasy.org.uk.
If you are interested in joining the team especially as a trustee please email Anne to arrange a chat, torbayleader@readeasy.org.uk.
If you don’t live in our area we can help you find your nearest group since Read Easy is a national organisation with volunteer groups across the country.
Read Easy Torbay & South Devon is a registered charity 1216441.
And finally, a big, big thank you to all who have changed your membership tier and to all our new members who have joined us.
