OPPOSITION Q&A – Wrexham AFC by Aled Roberts

OPPOSITION Q&A

Aled discusses Wrexham AFC

CELEBRATIONS!

Hugged fans around me in the stands, crying with happiness when ft happened. Went into the town centre celebrating with my friends and find a place we could celebrate together but every place in Wrexham was rammed and one of the streets was really crowded with flares being lit. Afterwards I had a relaxed evening with a beer thinking over what I had just witnessed which It still hasn’t sunk in yet.

HIGHLIGHTS

Boreham Wood at home speaks for itself. Coventry away was a class away day, didn’t expect a win let alone going into ht 3-1 up. Beating Notts at home 3-2 was a big statement win. Last minute winners are also brilliant and 3 that I remember have been away at Oldham in a 2-1 win, also Maidstone for a 3-2 win and away at Aldershot which we ended winning 4-3.

FORM

Wrexham recent form is good, in our last 5 games W3, D1 and L1. But our last 2 away games have been a 3-1 loss at Halifax and a 0-0 away at Barnet. Despite those last 2 away results I do think we will get a win.

THE OWNERS

If I were to compare my thoughts of them pre-takeover to now, they have exceeded expectations. Did think with their help we would be able to get promoted but it’s just the extra things they have done. For example putting money towards good causes and also helping fans for example a fan doing a go fund me page for an adapted bath.

KEY PLAYERS

Paul Mullin is exceptional, One of the best forwards I have seen play for reds. In defence I would say O’Connell, Tozer and Barnett, midfield between Lee and O’Connor. Tozer in particular has been very consistent this season.

THE MANAGER

I think he is the right man for next season, he’s had experience managing in the Football League with Bradford City, Colchester also Bolton and has done well with these 3 teams. He came to Wrexham and hadn’t had past experience in non league but has done really well (ok had money), still had to achieve the goal of promotion which he did. Can see him taking us to at least League 1 and definitely possibly the Championship like what happened to Luton.

THE LINE-UP

I think we might go with the same line-up as the previous game which was GK – Forster in Defence – Forde, Tozer, O’Connell, O’Conner, Barnett. Midfield – Cannon, Lee, J. Jones and Strikers – Mullin, Dalby. But considering majority of the players have been celebrating there could be a few changes with either changing a few of the players for example playing Cleworth or Hayden in defence and in midfield select Jordan Davies.

PLAY-OFFS

Notts County deserve to go up through the play-offs after the outstanding season they have had. For me I would pick them. But out of the others that I think could have a chance, originally had thought Barnet and Woking. After looking at recent performances particularly against sides near the top, it’s Bromley that have performed better. So as a dark horse I would say Bromley could potentially do it (They also have experience of winning at Wembley because of the win they had in the FA Trophy final against us) as well as my pick who I think will go up which is Notts.

THE LOCAL COMMUNITY AND THE FUTURE

It’s a massive boost for the local businesses in the town, food and drink in particular. May also encourage big businesses to come to the town also. Will also encourage the younger generation to come to watch the town and support a local club. Can definitely see League 1 being a possibility and definitely doable, something like Luton’s rise.

PREDICTION

I’m predicting a close game and I think we will edge it 2-1. Also would like to wish Torquay all the best for next season.
