OPPOSITION Q&A

Carla discusses her team ahead of the Trophy game
SEASON SUMMARY
Pleasantly surprising to be honest. Coming into the season I was hoping for stability and a decent top half finish but it was all about building. We’re on a great run and now the playoffs are a definite expectation!
RECENT FORM
We’re in good form at the moment with five wins in a row in all competitions – four of which have been away from home. To be fair, our performances have differed in quality at times. However, we seem to have found a way to get a job done effectively.

HIGHLIGHTS
We’re in the highlight of the season right now I’d say! We’ve found a system that works for us and are putting in confident displays every week, with all players contributing on a regular basis. Back in October being 1-0 down against Bromley in the 84th minute of the game and going on to win it 3-1 was definitely a high point though!
KEY PLAYERS
Nicke Kabamba is the obvious answer. With 17 goals in all competitions this season, he’s already equalled the number of goals our top scorer got last season, and is showing his impact going forward. Laurie Walker is reliable in goal too. Everyone’s been solid but Idris Kanu, Dale Gorman, Harry Pritchard & Jerome Okimo are staples in the side.
THE MANAGER
Dean Brennan has done a great job this season. Despite some tough results early in the campaign, he’s definitely figured out his best system now and it’s clearly working for us but he’s also willing to tweak it during a game if needs be. He likes us to close down high up the pitch so when we get the ball, we’re in an attacking position.
LINE-UP
I wouldn’t be surprised to see us make some changes for this game given the number of matches we’ve had this month and have after this weekend. However, momentum is such a big thing in football so we will no doubt be keen to carry that on. With new striker Harry Smith having come in mid-week, Kabamba may be dropped from the starting line up. I’d expect to see a strong side with mostly starting XI players but maybe a few tweaks.
OPPOSITION TEAMS
Southend did well against us beating us 3-0 at the start of November, the last time we lost a league game! Wrexham obviously have quality players but did let us score five goals! To be fair to Gateshead, they also put in a really effective performance against us in the game that finished 1-1.
PLAY-OFF BOUND?
Right now 100% yes. As previously mentioned, we haven’t lost a game in the league since 1st November. We do have some tough games coming up with Notts County to play twice, Wrexham and Woking. However, we are currently 12 points clear of 8th place with a game in hand so it would be disappointing if we slipped away now.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
As a team we work together really well and have improved on taking our chances when they come. We are much better at seeing out a game now too. A weakness of ours is that at times we can get caught on the counter by the opposition.
AWAY SUPPORT
How many supporters will Barnet bring down? In honesty I’m not holding out hope for too big of a crowd considering we have two weekends in a row away at Torquay! With our good form we are getting decent numbers away from home but I’d still guess under 100 for this game!
PREDICTION
I don’t think it’ll be as easy as people would predict looking at the league table and with it being a trophy game it’s all or nothing in these 90 minutes. However, I have to back us to carry on our momentum so I’ll go for 2-1 to us.
