1957 – SAMMY COLLINS GOAL MACHINE
Sammy Collins scores a hat-trick as Swindon Town are beaten 7-0 at Plainmoor. Collins is our all-time leading goal-scorer and was on top form as United kept up their fine run of results in the Football League Division Three (South). The United team also included players such as Dennis Lewis and Don Mills, with Tony Collins, Ron Shaw and Harold Dobbie the other Gulls scorers that day in front of a crowd of over 7k (the other goal was an og). Eric Webber’s side sat in 2nd position, with 41 points from 31 games, and eventually finished as close runners-up to Ipswich Town.

2021 – TORQUAY UNITED 1-1 WEALDSTONE FC
National League leaders Torquay fought back to draw 1-1 against Wealdstone with a stoppage-time equaliser at Plainmoor.
Wealdstone almost took the lead in bizarre fashion in the 32nd minute when a free-kick from Jacob Mendy caught the wind and flew against the crossbar. The visitors, though, did get themselves ahead five minutes later when Dennon Lewis broke and fed the ball to Mendy, who cut inside to drill a shot into the far corner. Torquay, beaten by Altrincham in their last league game, pressed for an equaliser in the second half, with Josh Umerah’s effort cleared off the line and midfielder Adam Randell hitting a post late on. The home side’s pressure finally told in the first minute of stoppage-time when Billy Waters slotted the ball in after Asa Hall’s shot was blocked.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Ex-Gulls striker and current Bath City player Alex Fletcher turns 24 today. Alex played three times for the Gulls on loan from Plymouth Argyle during the ill-fated 2017-18 relegation season. He also represented Aldershot and Tiverton on loan, before joining Tivvy permanently in 2020 and then moving onto Bath City in 2021.
