Tommy Hughes – Torquay United to Ipswich Town
The midfielder’s loan spell has been cut short at Plainmoor as Hughes wanted more game time and at a young age you can’t blame him. He made 2 appearances for the Gulls away at F.C. Halifax Town and started the defeat at Bromley F.C, playing 97 minutes in total.
Ashley Nathaniel-George – Torquay United to Maidenhead United
After his 45-minute appearance of the opening day of the season, Gary Johnson let winger Nathaniel-George go. He has subsequently joined National League rivals Maidenhead United.
Gabby Rogers – Torquay United to Kidderminster Harriers
After a season at Torquay United, winger Gabby Rogers has left Plainmoor and signed for Russell Penn’s Kidderminster Harriers in the National League North where he’s joined by fellow Ex-Gulls, Ashley Hemmings and Krystian Pearce.
Joe Felix – Torquay United to Dulwich Hamlet
After being released in the summer before the new season began, Joe Felix has joined National League South side Dulwich Hamlet and has already impressed at Champion Hill, named runner-up in their August Player of the Month on Twitter.
Kieffer Moore – A.F.C. Bournemouth
Days before his 30th birthday, Kieffer Moore made his Premier League debut and scored for Scott Parker’s side on the opening day of the season. Their 2-0 win against Aston Villa was their only win until the beginning of the month when Moore came off the bench on a 3-2 win away at Nottingham Forest. Since his goal, Scott Parker was the first sacked manager of the season in the top flight.
Mustapha Carayol – Gillingham F.C. to Burton Albion
In League 1, bottom of the table Burton Albion have named the signing of Mustapha Carayol ahead of 2-0 defeat against Portsmouth F.C. The winger was released by relegated Gillingham F.C. at the end of last season.
John Marquis – Bristol Rovers
Striker Marquis scored his first goal for Bristol Rovers after switching Lincolnshire for Bristol. He scored the winner after 34 minutes to record Joey Barton’s side their first home win of the season.
Jayden Stockley – Charlton Athletic
Jayden Stockley got off the mark in Charlton’s biggest win so far this season. He scored from the spot to double the Addicks lead as they beat 10-man Plymouth Argyle 5-1 at the Valley.
Jack Sparkes – Exeter City
In the Carabao Cup First Round, defender Jack Sparkes was amongst the scorers as Exeter City recorded a 7-0 win away at Cheltenham Town. Sparkes scored the 5th goal just before half time, luckily it wasn’t Shaun MacDonald in goal that day.
Baily Cargill and Armani Little – Forest Green Rovers
It’s been an eventful start for Armani Little at Forest Green Rovers, in the First Round of the Carabao Cup he scored a brace as they beat Leyton Orient 2-0 at the New Lawn but during their group game in the Papa John’s Trophy, he was given a straight red card in a 3-1 win against Southampton U21’s. Defender Baily Cargill equalised 5 minutes after going behind for Ian Burchnall’s side.
Billy Bodin – Oxford United
Another red card shown to an Ex-Gull was to forward Billy Bodin, who received 2 yellow cards in Oxford United’s 2-1 win away at Cheltenham Town.
Nathan Smith – Port Vale
Port Vale got their League 1 start off to winning ways with a victory at home against Fleetwood Town. They did go behind after 6 minutes, but Nathan Smith’s equaliser after 30 minutes was quickly followed up by the eventual winner 2 minutes later as Vale won 2-1.
Ryan Bowman – Shrewsbury Town, Rob Street – Crystal Palace to Shrewsbury Town (Loan)
Ryan Bowman scored his first goal of the season as Shrewsbury Town earned a point away at Bristol Rovers. His goal came with 10 minutes left on the clock. Bowman his also joined by Rob Street at Montgomery Waters Meadow after the striker joined on loan from Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day.
Ben Whitfield and Billy Waters – Barrow A.F.C.
Ben Whitfield has taken to life at Barrow AFC. like a duck to water, registering 5 assists already alongside a debut goal against his old side Stockport County, the opening goal against Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers as well as an equaliser against Lincoln City in a defeat on penalties in the Carabao Cup. In the Stockport County game, Billy Waters scored the winner on his debut as they ran out 3-2 winners.
Stephen Wearne – Grimsby Town
In a 4-0 win against Crewe Alexandra in the Carabao Cup, Stephen Wearne scored his first goal from Grimsby Town, rounding off the scoring with 4 minutes to go.
Josh Umerah – Hartlepool United
Striker Josh Umerah is scoring goals in the Football League for the first time since October 2017 when he was on loan at Wycombe Wanderers. His first strike was an equaliser against Northampton Town in a 2-1 defeat at Sixfields, as well as a penalty in a 4-2 defeat away at Leyton Orient. He also scored the opener from the spot in a 1-1 draw against Crewe Alexandra
Stephen Duke-McKenna – Queens Park Rangers to Leyton Orient (Loan)
In League 2, Guyana international Stephen Duke-McKenna has temporarily switched West London for East London, signing with Leyton Orient for the 2022/23 season.
Jamie Reid – Stevenage F.C.
Stevenage F.C. have had impressive start to the season, with Steve Evans side currently sitting 2nd in the table at the time of writing. Jamie Reid has already scored 4 goals this season, scoring the winner in the 5th minute of additional time against Stockport County, the winner in a cup upset against Peterborough United and a brace in Stevenage’s 2-1 win at Crewe Alexandra
Frank Vincent – Notts County to Aldershot Town (Loan)
In the National League, midfielder Frank Vincent has joined struggling Aldershot Town on loan for the month from Notts County. Since joining Mark Molesley’s side he has played all 3 games he been available for selection.
Ben Wynter – Barnet F.C.
I don’t know what it is, but Ben Wynter loves scoring a late goal against Woking F.C. He infamously did it during the Gulls National League South season and he did it again but this time for Barnet F.C. as the Bees won 2-0 at The Hive.
Tyrone Marsh – Boreham Wood
The ever-reliable Tyrone Marsh has been scoring once again for Boreham Wood. In 7 appearances so far, he’s found the back on the net on 4 occasions, scoring 115.75 minutes so far this season. He equalised in a 2-2 draw against Notts County, scored a brace away at Dorking Wanderers in a 4-1 win as well as scoring the second in a 2-0 win at Scunthorpe United.
Lucas Covolan and Joe Quigley – Chesterfield F.C.
For the second straight opening game of the season, Lucas Covolan was shown a straight red card league as leaders Chesterfield F.C. drew 2-2 with 9 men against the new boys Dorking Wanderers. Since then, Covolan has kept his first clean sheet for his new side in a 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic, which saw Joe Quigley score his first of the season. Quigley made it 2 in 2 games, scoring the equaliser in a 3-2 win against Southend United.
Paul McCallum – Dagenham & Redbridge
In what’s been a rough start to the season for Dagenham & Redbridge, Paul McCallum scored the winning goal in one of their 2 wins this season against Maidenhead United. His other goals have come in draws against Gateshead F.C. and Eastleigh F.C.
Shawn McCoulsky – Maidenhead United
Striker McCoulsky scored Maidenhead United’s second goal of the game as they beat Altrincham F.C., their second win of the season but since then, Alan Devonshire’s side have picked up 1 point in 5 games.
Manny Duku – York City
Manny Duku scored his first goal for York City with a header in the 5th minute of stoppage time to take the points against Bromley F.C. The Minstermen have started well this season and currently sit 7th, comedian Richard Herring tweeting, “All York need is to just sneak into 7th and then get lucky in the playoffs again and we’re back in the league!”
Byron Moore – A.F.C. Telford United
In the National League North, A.F.C. Telford currently sit in the relegation zone, despite Byron Moore scoring away at A.F.C. Fylde, they’re still in search for their second win of the season.
Paul Cox – Boston United
Also in the relegation zone are Boston United who’ve just parted ways with boss Paul Cox. He’s been replaced by the former King’s Lynn Town boss Ian Culverhouse.
Scott Boden – York City to Buxton F.C.
After only joining York City in the summer, striker Scott Boden has joined National League North side Buxton F.C. He’s only started 1 game, playing 161 minutes in 4 appearances for John Askey’s side.
Shepherd Murombedzi – Brackley Town
Just outside the play-offs sit Brackley Town, who suffered their biggest defeat of the season when beaten 3-0 by Farsley Celtic. 5 minutes into that tie, Shepherd Murombedzi was given a straight red card.
Gloucester City
Lucas Tomlinson – Bristol Rovers to Gloucester City
Winger Lucas Tomlinson has re-joined Gloucester City on a permanent deal after being released by Bristol Rovers. He was on loan at the club last season.
Matt Buse – Weymouth F.C. to Gloucester City
Matt Buse has also joined Mansell’s men in the National League North after leaving Weymouth F.C. in the summer. Like Tomlinson, Buse was on trial at Yeovil Town but wasn’t given a contract by Chris Hargreaves.
Daniel Leadbitter and Tommy O’Sullivan
On the pitch, Gloucester City have been an entertaining side, no draws so far but 4 wins and 4 defeats has been the order of play so far this season. In an opening day defeat, club captain Daniel Leadbitter equalised for Gloucester only for Tommy O’Sullivan to be sent-off 3 minutes later, the game finished 3-1 against Darlington F.C.
Ashley Hemmings and Krystian Pearce – Kidderminster Harriers
In the Play-Off spots, Kidderminster Harriers currently occupy 7th, they opened the season with a 1-0 win away at Blyth Spartans, thanks to Ashley Hemmings’ 53rd minute strike. Their biggest win of the season came at home against Spennymoor Town where both Hemmings and Krystian Pearce were on the scoresheet.
Alex Fletcher – Bath City
In the National League South, 3 Ex-Gulls currently sit 4th in the race for the Golden Boot. Alex Fletcher is one of them, he’s 5 goals have come in all of Bath City’s wins against Eastbourne Borough, Braintree Town, Farnborough, Slough Town and most recently Weymouth F.C.
Danny Mills – Dulwich Hamlet
After an unbeaten first 3 games, Dulwich Hamlet have spiralled down the table losing 5 straight games, two of which Danny Mills scored in. The first was in a 2-1 defeat against Welling United was the other was in a 3-1 defeat against Tonbridge Angels.
Shaq Coulthirst – Ebbsfleet United
Ebbsfleet United are the only team in senior football to keep their 100% winning record after 8 games, in their 2-1 win against Concord Rangers, opening the scoring on Canvey Island.
Elliott Romain – Ebbsfleet United to Eastbourne Borough (Loan)
Romain has returned to Eastbourne Borough on loan from Ebbsfleet United, the striker had the best form of his career at Priory Lane, scored 20 times during the 2016/17 National League South season. He’s yet to find the back of the net but has been sent-off in a 1-1 draw against local rivals Worthing F.C.
Joe Oastler, Paul Rooney and Danny Wright – Havant & Waterlooville
Further West down the South Coast at Havant & Waterlooville currently sit 2nd in the table only dropping 2 points so far this season. Three of our Ex-Gulls have scored this season, Paul Rooney scored on the opening day of the season as the Hawks beat Slough Town 3-1. Danny Wright regained Havant’s lead in a 3-2 win away at Hampton & Richmond Borough whilst Joe Oastler scored in a 4-3 win away at Chelmsford City.
Klaidi Lolos – Oxford City
One of the top scorers in the National League South at the minute is Klaidi Lolos, the Greek has scored 5 goals so far, despite losing 3-1 on the opening day, Lolos scored a debut consolation goal. He scored a brace in a 5-0 thrashing of Concord Rangers as well as penalties in each game against Weymouth F.C. and Hampton & Richmond Borough.
Elliot Benyon – Slough Town
In Berkshire, Elliot Benyon is still scoring goals, he bagged the opener in a 1-1 draw against Tonbridge Angels and scored the only goal in 1-0 win against Taunton Town.
Adebayo Azeez and Jamie Sendles-White return – Welling United
Also in the race for the Golden Boot is Adebayo Azeez, netting on 5 occasions so far this season. He scored Welling’s second in a 4-2 defeat against Worthing F.C., the eventual winner against new boys Cheshunt F.C. before netting a hat-trick in 5-0 win against Oxford City. He is joined by the returning Jamie Sendles-White who initially left the club at the end of last season but has been brought back for the 2022/23 campaign.
Keelan O’Connell – Weymouth F.C.
O’Connell joined the Terras this summer from TQ1 and scored on debut in a 3-1 defeat against Tonbridge Angels. This season has been difficult for Weymouth, who currently sit bottom of the table and have replaced David Oldfield with former Bracknell Town boss Bobby Wilkinson.
Jake Robinson – Worthing F.C.
Worthing F.C. are one of 3 teams currently unbeaten this season as they sit 3rd. Jake Robinson got them off to a dream start scoring after 5 minutes in their 1-1 draw against Dover Athletic. Unfortunately for Jake Robinson he’s currently got an injury as quoted by himself on twitter as “The biggest set back of my career”. Hope you get back on the field before too long Jake!
Dan Lavercombe – F.C. United of Manchester
In the Northern Premier League Premier Division, goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe has kept 2 clean sheets in the league so far, the first game in a 2-0 win away at Whitby Town, the other coming the following Tuesday in a 0-0 draw at Nantwich Town. He also kept a clean sheet in F.C. United of Manchester’s 1-0 win at Witton Albion.
Jak McCourt – Warrington Rylands 1906
The new boys of the league Warrington Rylands 1906 beat Bamber Bridge 2-0 for their first win of the season, Jak McCourt was amongst the scorers that day.
Chris Robertson – Coalville Town
Sitting 3rd in the Southern League Central Division are Coalville Town. One of their 4 wins came away at Mickleover F.C. with defender Chris Robertson regaining the lead after they gave away a 2-goal lead in 6 minutes.
Jamie Ward – Ilkeston Town
Towards the bottom of the league Ilkeston Town have a new caretaker manager in Jamie Ward after Martin Carruthers’ contract was cancelled by mutual consent. His first game was a 4-1 win at Coalville Town. Ward has scored once so far this since, finding the back of the net after 31 minutes to earn the 10 men of Ilkeston Town a point against Redditch United.
Max Sheaf – Gloucester City to Redditch United
Meanwhile at Redditch United, Max Sheaf has joined Redditch United after leaving Gloucester City. He scored his first goal for the club in a 2-2 draw against Stratford Town, a last-minute equaliser as they came from 2-0 down to earn a point.
James Hurst – Tamworth F.C.
Meanwhile, James Hurst was amongst the scorers as Tamworth F.C. beat Bedford Town 8-1! One of the those score lines where the 8 will be in brackets on the vidiprinter.
Josh Carmichael – Poole Town, Jake Andrews – Havant & Waterlooville to Poole Town on loan
In the Southern League South Division, Josh Carmichael scored the winner for Poole Town as they recorded their second win of the season against Merthyr Town. Jake Andrews has joined Poole Town on loan from Havant & Waterlooville on a month’s-loan
Darren Mullings – Salisbury F.C.
Darren Mullings scored to double Salisbury F.C.’s lead as they beat Swindon Supermarine 2-1.
Jared Lewington – Taunton Town to Plymouth Parkway (Loan)
Plymouth Parkway have yet to find their first win of the season. They have recruited striker Jared Lewington on loan from Taunton Town and scored the opener on his debut as they were beaten 3-1 by Dorchester Town.
Niall Thompson – Tiverton Town
At Tiverton, Niall Thompson has scored in both of Tiverton’s wins. He scored the 4th in a 4-2 win away at Poole Town as well as amongst the goals in a 4-2 win against Yate Town.
James Hamon and Dan Sullivan – Truro City
Currently unbeaten in the league, Truro City sit 3rd in the table with the league’s best defence thanks to James Hamon who kept clean sheets in a 4-0 win against Dorchester Town and a 0-0 draw against top of the table Weston-super-Mare A.F.C. Striker Dan Sullivan scored in the F.A. Cup as they were beaten 5-2 by fellow league side Merthyr Town.
Reuben Reid – Weston-super-Mare A.F.C.
At the top of the table sit 22 goal Weston-super-Mare A.F.C., Reuben Reid has scored 2 goals so far this season in a 3-2 win against Yate Town and a 4-1 win at Plymouth Parkway. He also scored in their 4-2 win at Basingstoke Town in the F.A. Cup.
Martin Horsell – Yate Town
Despite conceding 17 goals so far this season, Martin Horsell has kept 2 clean sheets for Yate Town. His first came in a 1-0 win at Hendon F.C. whilst the second was in a 0-0 draw against Dorchester Town.
Duane Ofori-Acheampong – Bowers & Pitsea
In the Isthmian Premier League, Bowers & Pitsea had to wait for the third game of the season as they beat Herne Bay 2-1. Duane Ofori-Acheampong opened the scoring after 13 minutes but was sent-off in the second half.
Iffy Allen – Hampton & Richmond Borough to Carshalton Athletic
Forward Iffy Allen has joined Carshalton Athletic after leaving Hampton & Richmond Borough in the summer after a brief spell with the National League South side.
Kadell Daniel – Folkestone Invicta
Guyana international Kadell Daniel has scored twice so far this season in the league, he opened his account on the opening day in a 1-1 draw at Enfield Town with his second coming in a 2-1 win against Herne Bay. He also scored in the F.A. Cup as they beat North Greenford United 3-1
Shamir Fenelon – Horsham F.C.
Shamir Fenelon scored in Horsham’s 5-0 win against Corinthian-Casuals, they currently sit second in the table.
Rene Howe – Bedford Town to Ware F.C./ Sam Chaney
Rene Howe has now linked up with Sam Chaney at Ware F.C. They’ve both found the back of net in the same game, scoring in a win against Welwyn Garden City, Chaney scoring a brace. Rene Howe also scored in their 3-0 win against Maldon and Tiptree in the F.A. Trophy.
Rhys Healey – Toulouse F.C.
In Ligue 1, Rhys Healey scored his first goal in the French topflight as Toulouse F.C. beat E.S.T.A.C. Troyes 3-0. Unfortunately for Rhys, he has torn his cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be out for 6 months. Get well soon Rhys!
Ruairi Keating – Cork City
As we come to the tail end of the season in the Irish Division 1, Cork City currently sit top of the table, 10 points clear of 2nd place Galway United. Ruairi Keating currently sit 2nd in the Golden Boot chase, he’s scored 4 goals in the last month, 3 in the league. The first came from the spot in a 6-1 win against Athlone Town, he scored a brace in a 2-1 win at Cobh Ramblers as well as a 95th minute penalty against Waterford F.C. He was also sent-off in their quarter-final tie of the F.A.I. Cup as they were beaten 2-0 by Derry City.
Sean McGinty – Ayr United
In the Scottish Championship, Sean McGinty equalised for Ayr United as they beat Queen’s Park 3-2. They currently sit top of the table after 6 games, unbeaten.
Axel Andresson – Orebro S.K.
In the second tier of Swedish football, Axel Andresson has scored twice in the last month. His first goal for Orebro S.K. was the opener in a 2-1 defeat away at I.F. Brommapojkarna. His second goal being an equaliser as they beat Utsikten B.K. 2-1. Orebro currently sit 3 points clear of the relegation zone after 23 games.
Giancarlo Gallifuoco – Kuala Lumpur City
In Malaysia, Giancarlo Gallifuoco scored his first goal after a year and half at Kuala Lumpur City. He scored a header after 5 minutes against Guy Gnabouyou former side Sabah F.C. Kuala Lumpur City are currently in the semi-finals of the A.F.C. Cup, the equivalent of the U.E.F.A. Europa League.
Guy Gnabouyou – F.C. Gareji to F.C. Sionin Bolnisi
Talking of the myth that is Guy Gnabouyou, on my monthly search to see where he is, he has left F.C. Gareji in the Georgian second tier to join recently promoted F.C. Sionin Bolnisi who are in the first tier of the Georgian football.
R.I.P. Dave Rudge
Rudge was a winger who spent 2 years at Plainmoor from 1975 from Hereford United making 71 appearances, scoring on 4 occasions. He spent his retired years in Devon visiting Plainmoor on multiple occasions. Before joining Hereford United, Rudge was on the books at Aston Villa playing under 4 different managers at Villa Park.
R.I.P. Dave Smith
We also learnt about the passing of former manager Dave Smith. The Scotsman managed Torquay United between 1989 and 1991, taking over from Cyril Knowles after a poor start to the 1989/90 season. The Gulls finished 15th that season. The following season Smith left in the April of 1991 with John Impey guiding the Gulls to promotion via the play-offs. Smith was well loved by fans and the comments made online have only been positive about the former manager.
