Luke from ShaymenTalk discusses his team FC Halifax Town
TT – Hi there, tell us a bit about yourself and the podcast?
LW – Hi my name is Luke Walsh and I currently run ShaymenTalk on YouTube. A channel that aims to give the fans a voice on our beloved club.
How would you summarise the Shaymen’s season so far?
It’s been a great season for us so far and you can tell there’s a buzz going around the Town. I think Pete Wild has found a group of lads who are really passionate about the club and have the work ethic that can hopefully get us out of this division.
How’s the teams recent form been?
We have been very consistent recently, not dropping many points at home and scrapping out results away against Weymouth, Dagenham, Notts County.
What’s been your highlights of 21-22 so far?
I think the highlight of 21-22 as a team as whole has to be the Notts County game. We were 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go, down to 10 men, and we somehow managed to come back and win in additional time. A night that will go down in history.
Who are your key players and why?
Billy Waters is very clinical in front of goal and always puts a 100% into a game. Jordan Slew is a very silky winger and has scored some incredible goals. Luke Summerfield is a very confident midfielder with a gifted passing ability, he is very good at controlling the game.
What are your main strengths as a team?
As a team we are very tight defensively and are deadly on the counter, especially in the second half when we are usually facing the South stand Loyals.
How highly do you rate Pete Wild and how does he like to set the team up?
Pete Wild is doing a fantastic job at Town, and has taken us on to the next stage to try get us back in the Football League. Under his management we have become a really good footballing side that knows how to break teams down.
Where’s best for the Yellow Army to find pre-match food and drinks?
For any loyal Gulls fans making the journey up I would highly suggest going to the Piece Hall prior to kick-off in central Town. There is also many good drinking pubs in town including the Royal Oak or the 3 Pigeons. For fans looking for some general pub grub I would suggest going to the Sheers near the stadium. It is also very convenient for matchday parking too.
Do you fancy your promotion chances?
I think as a fan I have to fancy us for promotion. Unlike previous seasons we have been very consistent throughout the season.
Which opposition teams and players have impressed you most?
Notts County impressed me as a very good footballing side. On the other hand Boreham Wood were a tight side that we found hard to break down. Josh Kelly for Maidenhead always looks a threat against us and loves to get a goal. Isla Sam for Notts County is a very good target man and scored a lovely goal against Town.
And finally, what’s your prediction for the game at the Shay?
