Why TUFC? Torquay was the holiday destination of choice for our family for nearly all of my childhood. One hot and sunny day in August 2003, my dad decided to take me to Plainmoor for some football, I’m not sure why. We lost 1-3 to Rochdale that day and my memories consist of sitting in the family stand and watching Matt Hockey get sent off. I was hooked though, and we went back to the ground soon after and bought my first shirt. All these years later, I couldn’t support anyone else.
Favourite all time TUFC players? The early 2010s were a special time as we were generally successful and I got to see plenty of games. The players from that era still stick out for me, the likes of Howe, Benyon, O’Kane, Olejnik, Mansell, Nicholson, Hargreaves. Good times.
Best TUFC memory?Plenty of choice, the 2010 play-off semi final away against Shrewsbury purely for the atmosphere which is still the best I’ve ever experienced. Seeing us beat League 1 Stockport 0-4 in the FA Cup 2nd round in 2009 at the Moss Rose because Edgeley Park was permanently waterlogged was unique memory. More recently, watching us thrash Stockport (again) in our first season back in the Conference confirmed we really could handle ourselves after being promoted.
Worst TUFC memory?Ashton Gate, there’s nothing else which comes remotely close. It was a sudden hammer blow compared to being relegated to the Conference South, for example, which I’d already accepted well before it was confirmed.
Favourite spot at Plainmoor? Usually on the back step of the Popside right opposite the tunnel. Good view of what’s going on and you also feel close to the action.
