Brilliant bloody brilliant!! We go to play off hopefuls, match them step for step and hang on for a massive win. Dover have the better of a disjointed first half where quality is low – until that man Brett pops up again to give us a lead. The second is much more lively! Another dramatic half – where goals are exchanged, chances are missed by both teams and the heroes in yellow shirts reward the magnificent loud travelling supporters with 3 points!
Turner 8 McGinty 8.5 Anderson 8 Gallifuoco 8
Verma 9 Young 8 Lee 7
Keating 7 Reid 7 Williams 9
Subs: Harrad 7 Lathrope 7 Gerring n/a (great celebrations though!)
43 mins – A cross from the right is perfectly placed for Williams to direct into the right hand corner, with their goalie motionless!
68 mins – Williams finds space 10 yards out and bangs it left footed over the despairing goalie. Cracking finish and big scenes of jubllation in the crowd, including me hugging anyone close!!
Man of the Match:
Aman Verma. Maybe not the obvious choice (Brett), but i think Andre was tremendous today. Breaking up attacks, keeping the ball and working overtime. A real captains performance from a guy who has been inspired in recent weeks, and found his best form for the club.
Brett 2nd goal is an absolute belter, and is a cushion we just about hold on to! He almost gets a hat trick from a corner as well, whilst an acrobatic volley from a Dover attacker looks like the equaliser later on (from our view at one end anyway!). In the truth the second half is a blur of goals, joy and stress!
Same team today same tactics – 4-3-3, with a generally defensive approach as Reid and Ruairi come back to help a lot making it more 4-5-1. Keating going off before HT is disapointing, though Harrad runs and runs to help secure the 3 points. Also a word on the defence today, superb from the back four who pressurise their counterparts into errors and do everything to keep them out.
Dover won’t be happy with their performance today. They have lots of possession and shots, but rarely trouble a grateful Moore. Saying that Miller does look very accomplished, and another day could have bagged a couple. Otherwise the team and the ground don’t look ready for league football! Their fans are very quiet, barely making a ripple – surprising for a team towards the top the league.
No big decisions today for the ref. He gets just about everything right really, so no complaints from me!
Brett Williams. Williams struggles to get into the game at first, but his taking of the chances is masterful today. He does fail to make runs on occasions so work rate will always be an issue, however with plenty of running done by the likes of Young (superb chasing and harrying from Luke as always), Harrad and Verma; the striker is left to do what he does best!
Away Fans Perspective:
Nice pub down the road (the Cricketers), but Crabble itself is pretty poor as grounds go. Stands look different to each and make the ground look patched up – whilst I couldn’t even get a programme as they’d sold out. Most of the noise is made by the Yellow Army, and the Dover fans don’t sound overly bothered about their team to be truthful.
Its been a terrific day out for us; me and Rich have chatted and celebrated with other fans and travel back with our Conference fate in our hands. PERFECT!
