TIME FOR REFLECTION ON REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY AFTER NO FOOTBALL SATURDAY
EX-UNITED FAVOURITES LEAD THE WAY OF FA CUP ROUND 1 SHOCKS
TIME TO MAKE YOUR WILL THROUGH WOLLENS AND TUST SPECIAL OFFER
Today is Remembrance Sunday when we reflect on past events honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice which are more significant than winning or losing football matches.
And for United fans it was a Forget Football Saturday.
So, what did you do instead?
Maybe with Torquay languishing in fourteenth place in National South now 14 points behind leaders Ebbsfleet albeit with a game in hand you decided to watch a day of rugby.
Or went out to sweep up the falling leaves.
Or like our Paint Up Plainmoor volunteers watched paint dry.
Or perhaps followed events in the FA Cup watching previous round conquers Oxford City go down 2-4 at home to Leicester in front of a capacity crowd of 3,500.
Fourteenth position is not what we pictured when the season kicked off back in August and by the same standards Manchester United fans didn’t expect to kick-off their match today in the Premier League’s bottom three.
Such are the highs and lows of football.
United, that’s the South Devon team, have a chance to build on last Saturday’s win at lowly Walton when they travel to winless (at home) Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday night.
No playing news coming out of TQ1 this past week other than some pictures of the team in training.
Maybe we’ll get some clues on Monday.
What happened in National South yesterday?
Chesham, in the relegation zone, kept Ebbsfleet at bay for 81 minutes before going down 1-0 while second place Maidstone losing 1-0 at Hemel scored twice in the second half.
Meanwhile Truro’s long trip to Folkestone was called off before a ball was kicked due to an accident to the visitors’ Yassine En-Neyah.
And in the basement battle Slough defeated Walton & Hersham for only their second win of the season.
Yesterday’s FA Cup produced a number of giant killings. Pride of place to Tim Sills’ Wimborne Town as they defeat Crawley 2-0, Paul Wotton’s Kidderminster dumping League 1 Doncaster out, Carlisle, Barrow and AFC Fylde knocking out EFL opponents while Salisbury, one of the surprise South sides, move into Round 2 after winning 6-0 in front of a record equalling crowd of 3,450.
FA Cup Crowd Watch: Plymouth 10,426, Bradford City 7,149, Leyton Orient 5,958, Carlisle 5,641, Mansfield 4,436, Altrincham 4,419, Luton Town 4,325.
Best National South: Dagenham & Redbridge 2,067, Chelmsford 1,523.

United’s Women were in league action this afternoon and thanks to a 15th minute goal from Sarah Stacey came away from Abington United with the three points in a 1-0 victory.
It could have been more with numerous chances missed.
