TT PREVIEW

Nigel discusses his team
ABOUT ME
I’m Nigel Seager. I’ve been doing Stones Live commentaries since 2020 and have had the pleasure of commentating on our historical cup run of 23/24 including the memorable game at Portman Road. I also do a weekly preview podcast with my fellow Stones Live commentator Sean Scurr.
SEASON SO FAR
Absolutely brilliant start to the season. Definitely better than the majority of the fanbase expected. We’re there merit as well having had home wins over Salisbury, Weston-super-Mare and Maidenhead and away wins at Tonbridge, Dorking & Horsham.
RECENT FORM
Had our customary September blip getting knocked out of the FA Cup after a replay to local club Cray Wanderers in-between defeats at Braintree and at home v Truro City. We’re back on track now though after the 2-1 win at Horsham and winning by the same score line at home to Maidenhead last Saturday.
THE MANAGER
Craig has done really well since taking over George Elokobi. This has been helped in no small part by Rob Tuvey who Craig got in as his assistant from Dorking Wanderers. As for getting us promoted, who knows. There are probably at least a dozen teams that would like to be in our position at the moment. Craig has given us clear D.N.A. We may not have the biggest squad but what we do have is a young, hungry squad that are learning all the time.
KEY PLAYERS
Probably a player that Torquay fans already know about Ryan Hanson. He’s a very underrated player. He does all the ugly stuff in the heart of the midfield that allows the likes of Reily Court, Tom Leahy & Leone Gravata to do their thing.
POSSIBLE LINE-UP
We’ve been playing in main a 433 formation. That does change sometimes though during games as one of the biggest factors in recruitment during the summer was getting players that are comfortable playing in multiple positions.
EXPECTATIONS HEADING INTO THE SEASON
I think playoffs isn’t an unrealistic aim for a club our size and the support we get. I know much has been made of our reduced budget this but it’s still one of the better ones in the league.
AWAY SUPPORT
I’d hazard a guess between 80-100. No disrespect to any other club in the league but it’s no longer our cup final due the frequency of the fixture. Saying that it’s still one of the best away days in the league and I shall be in attendance.
BOGEY TEAM!
It’s a strange one. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. Law of averages says it will come to an end eventually but hopefully not on Saturday.
PREDICTION
I don’t normally do predictions but since you asked I’ll say 2-1 to Maidstone. With Deon Moore getting his obligatory goal against his former team and Ryan Hanson doing the same for us getting the winner just as he did in our home fixture v Salisbury.
