SEPTEMBER’S MEN’S FOREVER YELLOW AWARDS PRESENTED BY JUNIOR GULL
YES THE FINAL SCORE WAS 5-1 AS MATT JAY TURNS THE TIDE
STEVE DARLING MP JOINS OUR INCLUSIVITY GROUP MEETING
Junior Gull Bella Jackson had a special day to remember. Along with her dad Matt, she first of all presented, on the pitch before yesterday’s National League South fixture, the TUST Forever Yellow trophy to Jacob Beaumont-Clark for September’s Goal of the Month and then September’s Player of the Month to Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.
Beaumont-Clark’s goal against Folkestone Invicta received 50% of the Forever Yellow vote with his goal against AFC Stoneham in the FA Cup second.
81.4% voted Lo-Everton as their stand-out player for September.
Bella’s day was complete later as she drove the BMW with the match ball onto the pitch to give to the referee.
Your son/daughter/grandchild can become a Junior Gull and have a chance to do what Bella did by going to http://www.tust.co.uk/juniorgulls.
Manager Jimmy Ball has talked in various interviews recently about ‘head scratching moments’. Well, there were plenty of fans streaming out of Plainmoor at 5pm scratching their heads as to how had Torquay won 5-1.
For the first 60 minutes, against the bottom team Slough Town, United struggled to get a foot-hold on the game. Lacking last month’s Player of the Month in Lo-Everton, Torquay looked devoid of inspiration.
In spite of what appeared to be a self-inflicted red card, the visitors were resolute in stopping the Gulls from even testing their keeper Killian Barrett who had joined the day before on loan from National League Barrow. Then, much to the delight of the travelling 67 high up in their Bristow’s perch, Slough took the lead with a penalty scored by ex-favourite Saikou Janneh by sending Toby Savin the wrong way before cheekily side-footing into the opposite corner.
Although Deon Moore, returning from his successful international duty with Guyana, and Callum Morton came on for the second half it was not until the introduction of Matt Jay in the 62nd minute who turned the game on its head.
His first touch was a sublime low drive from the edge of the box beyond the keeper’s reach to level the score and giving 3,450 inside Plainmoor hope.
The match sponsors, Bays Brewery, had seen enough naming him as their Player of the Match. In the Cove after the game, I spoke with Matt before he was interviewed and congratulated him on not only being named the game’s star player for only being on the pitch for 30/35 minutes but also for turning the game with his goal.
He modestly attributed his technique to Steve Perryman when they were at Exeter City together. After that he must surely be starting games soon.
Once the Slough keeper had spilled Cappello’s shot for Morton to slam home, the floodgates opened.
I’m aware there are many in the Yellow Army who rue the club selling Jordan Young but young Jacob Beaumont-Clark is a real emerging talent and increased his goal tally with another brace.
Next week it’s FA Cup action with National North Oxford City the visitors. The Hoops sit third in their division one point behind leaders Macclesfield having won 3-0 on the road at previously unbeaten (at home) Hebburn Town.
Their squad includes a few familiar names: Tyrone Marsh, Dillon De Siva, Alfie Potter and Zac McEachran.
Away from home they’ve played six games, winning five with their only defeat at AFC Telford 1-0.
In the 1979-80 season the club’s management team in the Isthmian League was Bobby Moore (Manager) and his assistant Harry Redknapp.
For the winners it’s a potential EFL club in the First Round draw.
Non-League Crowd Watch: Carlisle 6,444, Torquay 3,450, Macclesfield 2,764, Woking 2,464, Worthing 2,436.
Two goals inside the opening eleven minutes from Beth Everson and Katelyn Bell set up United’s Women for three away points at Bournemouth Sports on their return to National League action.
A third from the Forever Yellow voted Player of the Month for September Sarah Stacey gave a final score of 3-0.
Some of us from our own playing days know what it’s like to be in a team that loses week after week, pretty demoralising but you always live in hope.
So, step forward Step 6 Axminster Town playing in the South West Peninsula League Premier East who won their first game last Saturday, 4-1 at Okehampton Argyle, after 707 days, that’s 1 year, 11 months and 7 days!
Then on Tuesday night they won 3-2 at Bridport Town after being 2-0 down.
We’ve been asked to draw your attention to the annual Level Playing Field Fan survey which is into its last week to participate. The survey is very keen, in particular, to hear from disabled supporters. You can complete the survey by going to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/AFS2026.
And further details are available 2026 Level Playing Field Annual Fan Survey launched – Level Playing Field.
And coincidentally TUST’s Inclusivity Group met at Plainmoor on Saturday morning with representatives from the TUST board, Vice-Chair Robin Causley, member Matt Jackson, Supporter Liaison Officer Paul Bastard, club General Manager Tim Herbert, manager Jimmy Ball and were joined by Torbay MP Steve Darling.
