It might have been the international break weekend but the big talking points have been about off field events.
Top of the pile is the story about Manchester City’s guilty verdict, followed by the Prime Minister’s idea to bring back drinking (alcohol) in stadiums.
Then there’s the recent interesting poll commissioned by the Independent Football regulator and not forgetting closer to home, the Louis Dennis saga.
Friday’s breaking news that dominated all Saturday’s front pages was all about Manchester City being found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought by the Premier League and if you could be bothered reading up to six or seven pages inside the papers.
According to the news City face a range of sanctions from a fine to points deduction and even expulsion from the Premier League. Or a combination of all under rule W51 of its handbook.
The charges relate to a period from 2009-23, during which City won six League Cups, three FA Cups, seven league titles and the Champions League.
Not surprisingly City deny the charges and plan to appeal which could drag on for years.
No doubt this is a story which will continue to run.
Earlier in the week Andy Burnham raised the issue of bringing back the availability of fans drinking in the stands at all grounds from the Premier League downwards.
We know that at Step 2 level and below drinking is already permitted and whilst the re-introduction at the tail end of last season didn’t please everyone at Plainmoor it now appears to be accepted without any incidents.
However, a YouGov poll carried out after the Prime Minister’s comments found that 63 per cent of regular match-goers believed the ban should remain in place, while 35 per cent said it should be abolished. What’s your view? Fanszone.tu@gmail.com.
There has been an Ipsos poll commissioned by the Independent Football Regulator (IFR) to report. To remind members the IFR was established in the wake of threats to the national game by certain owners, the prospect of a breakaway league, concerns over sustainability of some clubs and attacks on club heritage without fan consultation.
The poll was completed by 1,904 English and Welsh fans who put club history (91%), engagement with fans (87%) and team name (86%) as “more important” to club heritage than on-field success.
The survey has been followed up by a social media campaign ‘What Happens When Saturday Doesn’t Come?’
The only way is Essex. Get me out of here. It was another afternoon of huge disappointment on Saturday as United went down 0-3 at Billericay, newly promoted, without troubling the scorers. It was a cringeworthy poor performance and not surprisingly the Yellow Army were not impressed.

Ex-Gulls Steve Tully and his assistant Chris McPhee left their management roles at Tavistock this week.
It was a disappointing Sunday afternoon trip for United’s Women to Home Park as the Gulls went down 1-0 to a first half free kick against Plymouth Argyle in the FA WNL League Cup but the real winner is the Roxy Thomas fund as the gate receipts were generously donated to help aid her recovery.
