SUMMARY

Struggling for words this morning. I’m guessing anyone reading this was either at Billericay, or watched the game on stream, so I’ll keep this section short. Just like the players, I can’t really be arsed to show up.

The game was three minutes new when the wheels started to fall off. About five of our players had a chance to make a tackle, they didn’t, and Billericay’s part timers cut through us like a hot knife through butter. 1 down, 90 odd minutes to go, so plenty of time to respond. They did nothing of the sort. Torquay passed it sideways for 30 minutes, until, once more, a number of players failed to clear a cross, and the ball’s in the back of the net. Right, still over an hour to play, we’ll show some sort of fight, right?

Do me a favour. A raft of changes followed at HT, and more of the same followed. Huff and puff in the strongest sense. And then icing on cake, Billercacy added a third through a tepid deflected effort. Still time for Westendorf to miss a couple of glaring chances my nan would’ve scored. And then the now customary Mexican stand-off between the manager and the fans after the full-time whistle. Absolutely abysmal.

PLAYER RATINGS

Savin – 4 – Not convinced. Looked very slow to get to down for the first. Went down like a sack of spuds for the third. Am I being harsh? Maybe a tad, but I’m furious.

Bernard – 4 – Along with rest of the defence, not a good day.

Scarff – 4 – Early days in his Torquay career, but looked shaky. Failed to clear the ball for the second. Did improve as game went on, but damage was done.

Browne – 4 – Did he train with the team prior to the game? Looked like a stranger and played like it. Grew into the game, to his credit.

Jenkins – 4 – Have liked the look of him at times, but so lightweight yesterday. Jay Foulston was a solid left back and the decision to let him go baffles me.

Worthington – 4 – Captain hooked at HT. We desperately need leaders on the pitch. Is he a true captain? Needs to step up.

Roberts – 4 – Good player, but the young lad couldn’t control the ball yesterday and then got injured, let’s hope it’s nothing serious.

Lo Everton – 6 – Not his day but did more than most.

Finn – 4 – Very quiet.

Beaumont-Clarke – 5 – I like him, but like everyone else, had a poor game by his standards

Morton – 4 – Tried hard, not questioning that, but very little quality shown.

SUBS:

Sundire – 4 – Gave the ball away a number of times.

Westendorf – 3 – Can’t hit a barn door.

Hayfield – 4 – Ran about a bit.

Robertson – 4 – Ran down the wing a bit.

TACTICS

Have to ask Jimmy on that. I didn’t see any. Started 4-3-3 that has looked fruitful in last 3 games. But nothing worked yesterday. Defence played like they didn’t know each other. And we severely missed Deon or Cody up front.

THE OPPOSITION

Billericay were well worth their win and simply wanted it more than us, which is hugely disappointing.

Nothing of note. Maybe a penalty shout for Morton in first half?

CONCLUSION

Desperately poor. After Maidenhead I thought we’d turned a corner and didn’t see today coming. Serious questions are looming about the squad Jimmy has assembled, especially now four of our best players have left. Slot two first choice centre backs into the side, and yesterday probably doesn’t happen. But this type of no-show is becoming all too familiar. It’s simply not good enough. I’m sick to death of trudging home from games embarrassed to wear the shirt. Promotion is looking an absolute pipe dream.
