MANAGER – ALAN DOWSON

Gateshead-born Alan Dowson appeared in the Football League for Millwall, Fulham, Bradford City and Darlington before first dropping into non-league football with Slough Town in the 1993-94 season. He took up his first managerial post in 2004 when he was appointed as player- manager at Walton and Hersham and in his first season in charge they finished as runners-up in Isthmian League Division One. In 2007, he moved on to Kingstonian who he guided to promotion from Isthmian League Division South in the 2008-09 campaign. He remained in charge of the K’s until 2014 and during this time they twice missed out on promotion to National League South through the Isthmian League play-offs – in the 2009-10 and 2013-14 seasons – before he resigned to spend more time with his family.

His next managerial port of call was with Hampton and Richmond in September 2014, who he would later lead to the Isthmian League title in the 2015-16 season. He was then appointed as manager of Woking in the summer of 2018 and led them to promotion from the National League South via the play-offs. He was sacked in February 2022 and became Dartford manager in the following summer. He guided the club to second place in the National League South last season, but they lost out in the play-offs. Dowson was relieved of his duties by the Darts in January 2024 and had spells as interim manager of Hemel Hempstead Town and first team coach at Aldershot Town before he returned to the Beavers in December 2025.

PLAYER PROFILE – TOBI SHO-SILVA

Tobi Sho-Silva started his career as an academy player at Charlton Athletic alongside Joe Gomez, and received his first taste of professional football during loan spells with the likes of Welling United and Inverness Caledonian Thistle. On leaving the Addicks in 2016, he signed for Bromley and also played for Dover Athletic and FC Halifax Town, He later appeared for Sutton United, Carlisle United and Kidderminster Harriers, winning promotion with the latter three. Away from football, he recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a master’s degree in Sports Business Management and Policy.

Torquay United further underlined their National League South promotion credentials as they hit four past Hampton and Richmond Borough to move up to third in the table. Despite falling behind to Aaron Lacey’s 21st minute effort, the Gulls rallied as goals from Callum Dolan, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Jordan Young and Dylan Morgan secured victory for United.

The Gulls started brightly as the returning Matt Worthington tested Beavers keeper Matt Rowley with a strike from the edge of the penalty area, which Rowley parried away. The rebound fell to Lo-Everton, who blasted over. Dan Hayfield, Worthington and Dolan all went close for United as they continued to enjoy the better of the first half.

In the 19th minute, Harry Gardner blasted over for the visitors, as they carved out their first real chance. Two minutes later, the Beavers were in front when Lacey turned home a free-kick from Gardner.

United came close to levelling matters on 32 minutes when leading scorer Louis Dennis side footed a cross from Dolan wide. Dennis went close again two minutes later, when he connected with a cross from the right from Young which he nodded behind.

The Gulls’ equaliser eventually came in the 39th minute when Dolan curled home with an angled effort. On the stroke of half time, Dennis drew a routine save from Rowley as both sides went in level at the break. In the second half, United edged ahead on 52 minutes when Young teed up Lo-Everton for a long- range effort which found the top corner.

The Gulls further extended their lead in the 63rd minute when Young cut inside onto his left foot and fired home his 13th of the campaign. On 77 minutes, Rowley produced an acrobatic save to deny Dennis, as he tipped his long-range strike away for a corner. With three minutes to go, sub Cody Cooke had a header which rattled the cross bar and bounced clear. However, the Gulls finally found a fourth in injury time when Cooke’s fellow sub Morgan cut onto his right and drilled an unstoppable angled strike past Rowley, as United sealed an important win.
