TT REVIEW

Dan Elliott – @dan_torquay_man
FIRST DEFEAT OF THE SEASON
Before the game kicked off and probably before the season started you would have said we’d be happy with a point away to Dagenham, just because of our record there and also in the grander scheme of things.
However, before the game kicked off after witnessing what I saw the week before that Tonbridge Angels, instead I was pretty optimistic!!!!
I even felt there was a possibility we could get all three points out of this game.
Unbelievable Jeff.
The previous week, whilst it wasn’t perfect, we had grit, determination and managed to score 2 goals and find a way to win on the road in the first away outing.
That alone felt a little different. To quote the famous Corporal Jone “The don’t like it up them”
We were actually mixing it up a bit, taking a bit of inspiration from Argentina…… let’s not go there!!!
Back to the game and getting all 3 points
They say “it’s the hope that kills you” so after that second goal went in and then what felt like instantly straight after Dan got sent off.
Hope and the chance of 3 points had vanished down the bleddy tunnel with Dan Hayfield along with a lot of the energy that was in the Yellow Army, as we could sense the minute the play resumed after the red card had been issued the game was over.
JIMMY BALL REVEALS ALL
I have to say I was more than impressed with the managers post match press conference with the clubs social media team. Every word that he said had emphasis and meaning, he didn’t mince his words, you could and feel his frustration and what he had witnessed.
One of the most telling things he said was about what he see’s in training and how it’s not coming to fruition on match days.
That’s frustrating and I’m bleddy fustrated for him.
Might go and start watch training rather than match days… ha ha!
That revelation for me was a huge sign of relief.
Whilst I’m no football coach, manager or ex player, I believe that I am a good judge of character.
For me, if that is what the manager is seeing in training then it’s only a matter of time before it’s firing on match days.
So his frustration at full time feels justified
To be clear he came straight over to the Yellow Army at the end and for a considerable amount of minutes applauded us.
Like I said, good judge of character.
DAGGERS
I feel a little bit slightly short changed, I don’t know if they are any bleddy good or not
Just to confirm……I am not taking anything away from the victory, it was well deserved, based on the 95 minutes yesterday, like I said, I just don’t know if they are any good?
That’s not their fault, I don’t think they needed to come out of second gear all game, maybe for about for around 45 seconds to finish their two goals.
However, you don’t need to be a Sky Sport Pundit or random YouTuber (nothing wrong with that also by the way) to predict that the Daggers are going to be there or thereabouts Come What May!
Back to yesterday, my feeling is a lot of their players knew they didn’t need to do to much to win that game.
However if they needed to they could have turned it on.
I did leave thinking I’m not sure how many teams are going to take many points of them this season. However when it comes to the NLS it’s a marathon, in January, in a blizzard and in the dark.
So anything can happen!
DON’T PANIC
Listen, whilst Saturday wasn’t great and we all know that, we just need to relax!
Firstly, the season doesn’t start till the clocks go back.
Secondly, we have a squad!!! Yes you read that correctly, we actually have a squad!!!
I feel that Jimmy went Jose on Saturday and went for the triple substitution at half time. Now why he did that I will leave to Dave Thomas or someone else to ask that question.
I’m going to have a stab in the dark and say he was not happy with the output of those players so he hooked them at HT to get a reaction out of everyone!!!
So whilst it wasn’t great, the alarm bells are not going off, the glass has not been broken, nobody is near the glass, a few people may have side eyed and take a little look at the glass, that’s fine…… but for now we don’t need to panic……. The alarm bells are not going off.
LET JIMMY COOK!
I will keep this simple and use a cooking analogy
Jimmy is our Head Chef.
Now Jimmy knows what he wants to cook (how he wants to play) , he has an abundance of ingredients (our players) right now he is trying different recipes (formation’s) currently he is trying and testing different things in the kitchen and it’s not tasting just right.
Now, that’s doesn’t mean that Jimmy is not an excellent Head Chef, or the ingredients aren’t good enough or just right, it means it takes time a few more goes at it all and patience to get it right
Once he nails that recipe and gets the ingredients right we are going to have one tasty dish…….
So once again…… LET JIMMY COOK!
THE YELLOW ARMY
I literally don’t know what to say…….
Actually I do…….
The best support in Non League!
Yet again, unreal yesterday. They didn’t stop all afternoon. Turned up in numbers, sang, cheered and got behind the team.
Such incredible support as always.
Now this is me showing my age here but how lovely was it also to have a stand, not have to swap ends at half time, sit down at the interval also.
What a treat.
August is not even over yet folks, let’s stick together, get behind this manager and this team!
Any once the season starts after the clocks go back the tittle charge will begin!!!
