NEW GULL PROFILE

Sam talks about the newest Gull
After a couple of weeks without any #incomings, and the rumour mill continuing to swirl, the Yellow Army was getting restless. However, the barren streak was broken as United signed Welsh defender Kian Jenkins from Briton Ferry Llansawel. As a man from Wales, the signing of a fellow Welshman always makes me happy, but who exactly is the boyo from Neath?
CAREER SUMMARY
Kian Jenkins was born in Neath in 2004 and at some point joined the Swansea City Academy, working his way up the ranks. Despite being capped 4 times by the Wales U-16 team, he never made a first team appearance for the Swans and was released in 2024. He stayed local, signing for JD Cymru Premier side Briton Ferry Llansawel that summer where he made 58 League Appearances for the Ferry across two seasons, scoring 7 goals in the process. In his final season at the Old Road he was nominated for the Cymru Premier Young Player of the Year award, and was Briton Ferry Llansawel’s Young Player of the Year before he moved down to Devon to join the Gulls.

TALKING ABOUT KIAN
Jimmy Ball on Kian signing for United – “He’s got a lot of potential, he plays up the left hand side, multiple positions, good top end of the pitch, good delivery, good goal scoring record as a full-back, and really good defensively in one-v-ones.”
JENKINS STATS
DATE OF BIRTH: 4TH JUNE 2004 – 22 YEARS-OLD
BIRTHPLACE: NEATH, WALES
HEIGHT: 1.77M
POSITION: LEFT BACK
CYMRU PREM 25-26 STATS: APPEARANCES 32, GOALS 4, ASSISTS 5, YELLOW CARDS 2, RED CARDS 0
MOST LIKELY/LEAST LIKELY
Most Likely To
- Play both on the Left and the Right of defence. His time at the Ferry was spent on both sides so expect to see him all over the pitch.
- Randomly belt into song whenever he feels like it. He is a Welshman after all.
Least Likely To
- Stay back. He looks a proper attacking fullback.
- Teach the lads how to speak Welsh. It’ll be funny, but focus on the football first.
CONCLUSION
Once again, versatility is the name of the game for Jimmy Ball. Well, technically its football but you know what I mean. The young Welshman has played both full back positions and on the left-wing so I would expect to see him all over the pitch. He’s more experienced than Hill, so I wonder if he will be the first choice left-back come opening day but time will tell. Croeso i Torquay Kian!
