NEW GULL PROFILE

Sam talks about the newest Gull
We have another new signing! After the summer departures of Foulston and Palmer, and the uncertainty around Dreyer, United announced the signing of 20 year old defender Tyler Hill. The young defender, brother of Bournemouth player James Hill and son of former Bristol City player Matt Hill, joins the Gulls from Spennymoor Town. But who is the newest Gull?
CAREER SUMMARY
Tyler Hill was born in 2006, in Preston as that’s where his Dad was playing at the time. He joined the Blackpool Academy, progressed through the ranks but never made a first team appearance. While on their books he had a couple of loan spells at Nantwich Town, and was released by The Tangerines in the summer of 2025.
He then joined Spennymoor Town where he spent the 2025/2026 season, making 32 appearances in all competitions. He left The Moors in the summer of 2026, and moved down to Devon to join the Gulls.
HIGHLIGHTS
He’s never scored a professional goal, but here he is with his only professional assist (an assist in the loosest possible terms):
TALKING ABOUT TYLER
Jimmy Ball on Tyler signing for United – “We managed to go up against a League One club who were trying to sign Tyler. He decided to come here and play football. I’m absolutely delighted by it.”
HILL STATS
DATE OF BIRTH: 30TH MAY 2006 – 20 YEARS-OLD
BIRTHPLACE: PRESTON, ENGLAND
HEIGHT: 1.90M
POSITION: Centre back
NLN 25-26 STATS: APPEARANCES 32, GOALS 0, ASSISTS 1, YELLOW CARDS 5, RED CARDS 0
MOST LIKELY/LEAST LIKELY
Most Likely To
- Play both on the Left and the Centre of defence. His time at Spennymoor was spent mainly on the left but he can play as a Centre Back as well.
Least Likely To
- Bomb forward. The man has no goals and one “assist” to his name in his career. Expect a lot of sitting back.
- Encourage his brother to sign for United. Bournemouth is on the coast, Torquay is on the coast…they’re basically the same place.
CONCLUSION
It looks like we have our new starting left back! Based on Ball’s comments, and the departure of Jay Foulston, I would expect Hill to be first choice next season. The versatility will also be a massive asset, which seems to be a theme of the summer recruitment. It does make me wonder is Ball wants to have the option of 3 at the back, with Dyer in the middle and Bernard as the Right Centre Back. It also makes me wonder if Sam Dreyer is going…but lets focus on the positive. The team is starting to take shape, but some more depth, and maybe experience, is needed.
