TALKING POINTS

The Final Frontier… for now
So, here we go. We have reached game 46 of 46 for another season. It’s been full of fun, joy, despair and hope, and all four are still on the menu heading into the last game of the season. The good news is that our fate is in our hands. Win in Kent and a playoff place of some description is ours. Lose and we are at the fate of the gods. Being able to decide your own fate is always preferable.
Sonny Blu Back?
Eyebrows were raised at the omission of newly crowned Player Of The Season Sonny Blu Lo-Everton last week against Hemel Hempstead. One of the features of these closing weeks has been the array of attacking talent available to Jimmy Ball. But you can’t help feel that Sonny Blu is the one that makes us tick, and I would expect to see him in the starting eleven on Saturday. The options available off the bench are plentiful, so all combinations are available.
Worthington Renaissance
The late season resurgence of skipper Matt Worthington has made a significant difference to the Gulls. Although not the season we had planned, he has come back strongly after the red card blotted his copy book at Ebbsfleet. Jimmy identified that he has been playing too deeply, and he is now influencing games higher up. Leadership will be key on Saturday and what may follow. We need our captain to stand up in the Kent sunshine.
Who do we want?
Take one game at a time. I know. I know. But you can’t not look at what might follow after Saturday. Given the ridiculousness of the National League South, we can finish anywhere from 2nd to 9th on the final day. Crazy. 2nd would be ideal, 9th would be a nightmare. But the reality is that we will all know how the cards have fallen at 1430 on Saturday and what does, or doesn’t come next.
The Opposition
Tonbridge Angels have had another comfortable season in NLS. They have neither threatened the play off places or been threatened by the relegation places. Last week’s 6-1 win at Farnborough being a highlight. But they are a dangerous beast as they have nothing to lose, and we need to be mindful of that. We need to play our football, get on the front foot and get the job done.
