TALKING POINTS

Sam Jones – @samuellejones
Sam discusses the key points ahead of United’s game against Hemel.
RECENT FORM
Jimmy Ball-Ball is now in full effect. United have turned the corner under the recent appointee and are in fantastic form with two games to go. Granted, the fixture list hasn’t been the most challenging but the way we’ve put some very poor teams to the sword is fantastic to see. We’ve scored 16 goals in our last 5 games, with the goals coming from 8 different scorers. We’ve taken the burden off Jordan Young to produce some magic, and shared it around. If we can keep this up, we should fear no-one in the play offs.
DYLAN MORGAN
Speaking of scoring goals for fun, what has happened to Dylan Morgan? The Southwest Salah has five goals in his last four games, including that incredible hat trick against Slough. His ability to create that extra yard of space against the defender and fire a shot off is proving too hot to handle for most NLS teams. After some middling form, and a run of niggly injuries that have plagued his career on the South Coast so far he is showing that he can be a difference maker for United.
THE SQUAD
In his presser Jimmy Ball talked about the difficulty of having to leave players out. Compared to recent seasons, what a luxury to have at this stage. If you look at our last line-up we won 5-1 and had Dolan, Dennis and Lo-Everton on the bench to start. By the time most of them came on, we had won the game comfortably! It’s amazing to see the squad in such good shape heading into the play-offs. Also, a hat-tip to the recent recruitment which has helped us. Stacey looks and upgrade on Hamon, Moore is the striker we’ve missed while Cody has been out and the Evans and Osborne are providing fantastic strength in depth.
PLAY-OFF PICTURE
With 2 games to go, the Play-Off Picture is almost there. Worthing will win the title and Dorking, us and Hornchurch will most likely qualify. Looking at the table, there are still 7 Teams vying for those last 4 spots and its anybody’s guess who will take them. For United, it is imperative that we secure not just the “automatic” play-off route but ideally 2nd place so all our games will be at home. Rather than having to go to Dorking or Hornchurch, it would help the lads so much if we could play both games at a raucous, sold out Plainmoor. If Ball and his Merry Men can secure those final 6 points, I reckon we’ll have that second place wrapped up.
