DREAM TEAM
Paul Mulhern
It’s only when you try to do these that you realise how difficult it is. Then you also remember all the great players that have graced Plainmoor over the years. I doubt any 2 fans would have the same team but here goes with mine.
GOALKEEPER – BOBBY OLEJNIK
I know it’s not Nev but what a keeper he was for us. I remember having a chat with 2 other fans who asked, with me being Scottish, if I had heard of him. I said yes and that both Celtic and Rangers were looking at bringing him to their club from Falkirk. When they told me that United had signed him, I didn’t believe them for about 3 days. His time was short but memorable.
RIGHT BACK – PAUL HOLMES
A model professional and top quality player as well. His sad passing recently was felt by many fans. He took a little bit of the club with him and earned the right to do so. RIP Paul.
LEFT BACK – KEVIN NICHOLSON
Another model pro who would never give up. Got to know him a little through the radio and it’s obvious to anyone who knows him how dedicated he is. 300+ appearances makes it hard to exclude him.
CENTRE BACK – MATT ELLIOTT
A rock at the back who went on to have an excellent career at a very high level. Including international caps for Scotland. So maybe not that high them.
CENTRE BACK – CRAIG TAYLOR
Joined the club at the right time and proved to be an invaluable leader. Don’t think the fans were sure how well it would work out when he joined. It went well. Very well.
RIGHT MIDFIELD – WAYNE CARLISLE
We shall overlook the previous season play off semi as he more than made up for it by joining United and getting back to back promotions. And that cross….
MIDFIELDER – EUNAN O’KANE
All teams need a touch of class and he provided it. Over 100 games for the club as well which was a bonus.

MIDFIELDER – JASON FOWLER
Integral to the team. I know of some very knowledgeable football people who all speak highly of Jason. A players player.
LEFT MIDFIELD – MARK LORAM
Words don’t do him justice. Mercurial, magical, he’s been called them all. Some say he never realised his true talent but he did for Torquay. Just when you thought he was having one of those days, he would do something truly special. A game changer.
STRIKER – DAVID GRAHAM
Sometimes a player and a club just seem to go hand in hand. This was the case with us and David. Universally loved by the yellow army and of course, played a big part in crucial seasons.
STRIKER – RODNEY JACK
If you need something different from your striker, Rodney was the man to give it. His goal-scoring record might not look good on paper but he offered so much more. On his game, a joy to watch.
SUBS
I’m going for 7, some of them sentimental as I’ve got to know them a little and has the pleasure of talking to them or working with them.
GK: Big Nev. No explanation needed.
DF: Aaron Downes. Total dedication on the park and the nicest bloke you could ever meet off it.
DF: Brian McGlinchey. We got the tail end of his career but still a great player.
MF: Chris Hargreaves. A lower league legend and a player who young pro’s to this day still model themselves after. Great bloke as well.
MF: Asa Hall. Another model pro who sadly injury caught up with him. But a really good player and superb influence around the club. Another great guy as well.
STR: Jamie Reid. I always really felt sorry for Jamie when he was played out of position. Still gave his all. Then Gary Johnson unlocked him and Jamie showed what a great striker he could be. Delighted he is enjoying success at club and international level now. Nobody deserves it more.
STR: Tony Bedeau. Another who could change the game and another good guy. My good lady has told me he has to be included.
THE MANAGER – LEROY ROSENIOR
Leroy took the club to levels that were so hard to get to and got some decent players playing well and good players playing better. The way he is revered by the fans is testament to what he did for the club and it’s always great to see him back at the ground when he pops in.
COYY – PAUL

As someone who has watched United since the 50’s I cannot understand anyone leaving Robin Stubbs out of a United representative side.
There have been many very good players and I have to admit I never saw Mills in his prime but the sheer class of Stubbs, John Bond and briefly Tony Currie in my opinion have no equal.
Appreciate this is one opinion but, come on !
