Jonny discusses the game at Chesham
WOTTON SHUFFLES HIS PACK
48 hours on from a hard-fought victory at Plainmoor against Dorking Wanderers, if there was ever a test of a squad’s credentials, this was it. Cooke and Crosbie came in up top, Collins into midfield, and Tonks at right wing back.
Cooke should’ve put us ahead early doors, but did take his penalty well. Crosbie had a tough first start, but the whole side was having an off-day, so I’m not going to judge him on this game. Collins, returning to his former club, put in a shift. Tonks struggled too, however, did very well to get his shot on target to win the penalty. Handball!!
Five subs later did enough to grind out the three points. It shows you how vital it is to have options from the bench, something we’ve not had for several years!
MYSTIC MUSSA
Another sub appearance for the man that we all believe can add sparkle to Wotton’s Tricky Yellows. He most definitely has something. I’ve not seen a player glide past opponents for an age, but end-product is currently lacking. Did he make a difference at Chesham? I’d say yes, but he’s only running at 70% power. Let’s get him charged and he will fire.
MOXEY’S MAGIC HAT
Question. The defence has been uncharacteristically shaky all afternoon. We can’t pick out a final ball, and Carson’s race is run. Who do you turn to for that bit of experience? That bit of quality? Answer, there’s a wise old head kicking every ball on the sideline, played over 600 professional games, and he goes by the name Dean Moxey. The legend whipped in a perfect cross for Brad Ash to stoop low and head in at the near post. Perfect substitution. Perfect moment, and a masterstroke by the manager. Limbs!
DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’
Our away record has been nothing short of a disgrace in recent times. But having just won (and witnessed) back-to-back away wins, is the mentality of this club changing? Off the pitch, the club is operating on a different planet to what came before, but that is by no means a guarantee of success on it. I’m here to tell you, we are most definitely headed in the right direction. Winning while playing badly is a not a trait we normally possess – and a habit only good sides get into.
PRIDE IN THE CLUB
To Bryn, Wotton and Warnock. I’ve not been proud to be a Torquay fan for a long, long time. I thank every single of you, once again for bringing us back from the brink. For giving us back our identity. For uniting us. Last minute winners like on Monday would not have been possible without you. And it felt f*cking brilliant!
