Celebration time
There’s very little better than a last minute goal is there? England produced another poor performance on Sunday, full of unimaginative football, terrible crosses and tactical confusion….but at least they didn’t give up. And the big moment probably had to come from Jude Bellingham, and what a moment. It’s the sheer delight of the ball hitting the back of the net after you’ve given up, the surprise and joy that makes up for two hours of torture! We asked on the Socials for people’s biggest celebratory TUFC moments, unsurprisingly a few of the massive Gulls moments were repeated (Sills, Bamber/Howells, Southend and Dobson), whilst we asked for no Covolan mentions! My own favourites? Apart from the obvious? Chris Zebroski scoring at St James Park in the 2008 play-offs comes to mind, Brett Williams at Dover in 2017, Lee Mansell at Plymouth in 2012. Big goals, though only two of them aged well!
Squad bulking up
We’re not far off a full Torquay United squad now, and what a terrific way of announcing the players by including it in the Neil Warnock Princess Theatre evening. I think we all expected Dean Moxey to return, but time has been ticking on and defenders have been recruited so it did start to look slightly doubtful. Mox is a veteran who still loves playing football, we know he won’t let us down, let’s just hope we can rotate him more this season. Meanwhile Jordan Dyer and Dan Hayfield both tick the boxes of NLS experience and room to improve at Torquay United, so look astute signings by Paul Wotton. What’s left on the shopping list? Some more creativity wouldn’t go amiss, this could come via the loan market, whilst it sounds like an experienced target man is sought after. That would make sense, going into the winter months, strength and hold up play in the final third can make all the difference. We are getting there though, and we can feel confident I think as the pieces fall into place.
Gull’s Eye View
Two fantastic interviews in recent weeks on YouTube as we discussed matters with Alex Rowe and Lee Mansell, who both gave candid and honest views on their notable (and typically rollercoaster) times at Plainmoor. The consortium from 2007 was a great chance for Torquay United to push into the future with supporters in charge, unfortunately for various reasons it wasn’t to be, but now we have another chance under the Bryn consortium to approach the challenge again. Meanwhile Manse gained my respect at Torquay because he literally gave everything he could in a Gulls shirt. Sometimes it worked out and sometimes it didn’t, but his efforts were appreciated and he showed us what we were missing in the years after when he found promotion success at Bristol Rovers. More fantastic guests are due in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out…
Backing Bryn
The take up on the Season Tickets has been excellent, and the good vibes at Torquay United are a blessing after a couple of years of grim turmoil. Everything about the club feels better, and the Bryn Consortium are doing and saying the right things to drag this club out of the doldrums. These new owners will inspire many to come back to Plainmoor, and many to spend more on following/sponsoring their club. Owners can set the whole tone for a football club, and whilst nobody can promise that positive results on the pitch will follow, we can have faith that this new Torquay United will do everything in their power to achieve success, which is really all we can ask for.

Agreed Dom a great positive vibe has swept across all the staff at Plainmoor and amongst all the fans under the new owners after the recent dire Gary J years.
Living in Exeter I have difficulty with travel to home games but I have still bought a season ticket to support the club and I felt a real positive vibe from the sales office staff at our Club.
Keep up the good work with Torquay Talk definitely the best site to visit.
