OPPOSITION Q&A
Tommy discusses the Beavers
SEASON SUMMARY
Yeah a very successful season so far, can’t complain. Top of the league with breathing space. Think start of the season if someone said you’d be top and 7 points clear with 6 games to go we would have bitten their hand off, especially with the previous seasons we’ve had.
FORM
Hit and miss really, lost our first game at home the other week followed by another loss. Thankfully we won a big game on Saturday against Braintree to get back on track.
HIGHLIGHTS
Has to be the 14 wins in a row earlier in the season. And just having a team that are winning more than it’s losing again after the poor recent seasons we’ve been through.
KEY PLAYERS
Michael Smith – to get that standard player in this league has been something else. Hardly put a foot wrong at right back and scores goals as well. Joe Day – solid , commanding goalkeeper who rarely makes a mistake. Rhys Murphy – such a clever player and can score goals out of nothing (shame he got injured) but back in training now so should feature before seasons finishes.
MARK COOPER
Yeah expectations obviously high and with the recruitment that has been made not too many complaints at all. Full time team in part time league always going to find teams up their game against us, so he’s done well to lead us to where we currently sit. Cooper likes to play from the back and use the pace down the wings. But also not afraid of long ball game and direct play when needed.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
Strengths has to be the defensive unit, so many clean sheets and commanding, main reason why we are top in my opinion. Weakness – often found it difficult to score since the injuries to Murphy and Hyde.
POSSIBLE STEP UP TO THE NL
Yes I think we’re more than capable of holding our own in that league if we go up, but definitely need reinforcements, probably 5 or 6 additions and maybe a sneaky play-off place next season.
BEST OPPOSITION
Team – Have to say Chippenham both times playing them, a very well organised team that likes to pass the ball around. Currently 11th in the league which seems slightly false going by both performances. Player – Ollie Pearce from Worthing, a striker far too good for this league, wouldn’t surprise me if he gets snapped up by a league team next season.
PREDICTION
Tight game and pressure definitely more on us. 2-0 win for Yeovil. Just want to say though, I do hope everything will be sorted out for you after what’s gone on recently. Sure you will be back in the National League soon.
