GULLS MEMORIES FROM THIS DAY IN TIME
1992 – A DEBUT FOR DARREN MOORE
Big Darren Moore was born in Birmingham but started his football career as a trainee at TUFC in 1990, ironically making his debut as a 17 year-old on 24th March 1992 in a 2-1 defeat to…Birmingham City! Moore went from strength to strength as a Gulls player, using his size and strength to become a fans favourite and helping the Gulls to the play-offs in 1994. Unfortunately the infamous Paul Raynor incident saw Darren sent off in the 2nd leg of the semi-final and United missed out. He stayed another year before joining Doncaster Rovers for £62,500 in the summer of 1995. He went onto have a successful career, appearing in the Premier League and also for Jamaica. Moore is now manager at Sheffield Wednesday.

2015 – WOKING 3-2 TORQUAY UNITED
Woking hit back from conceding two early goals to keep alive their hopes of earning a place in the play-offs.
Aaron Downes headed Torquay’s opener from close range before Louis Briscoe slammed in Ryan Bowman’s cross just over two minutes later to make it 2-0. Yemi Odubade pulled one back from close range early in the second half and Josh Payne shot home through a crowd of players to equalise for Woking. Scott Rendell won it from six yards and Kevin Betsy should have hit a fourth. Woking are now a point off fifth-placed Forest Green Rovers, while Torquay are 15th in the Conference table.
Torquay XI: Rice, Pearce, Dawson, Downes, McQuilkin, Young, Ajala, Cameron, Briscoe (Yeoman), Gueguen, Bowman (Prynn) Subs Not Used: Lavercombe, Harding, Richards Booked: Gueguen
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Happy birthday to Billy Bodin (31) and Tony Bedeau (44). Swindon Town youngster Billy joined Martin Ling’s TUFC in August 2011 on loan, and soon made an impact from the wing in an excellent season for the Gulls. In the summer of 2012 United snapped him up for 70k, but his career at Torquay never got going and he suffered a knee ligament injury. Bodin left in 2014, and found success in the Football League and also gained one cap for Wales. Tony Bedeau played 374 times for the Gulls over two spells, varying between striker and winger Beds was always a handful for defenders and was part of the promotion winning squad in 2004. Tony was then awarded a testimonial in 2005 for his efforts. He left soon after, returning less successfully under Paul Buckle in 2007.
