2013 – ALAN KNILL TAKES CHARGE AT PLAINMOOR
With Martin Ling on long term sick leave and United struggling in League Two, ex-Scunthorpe and Bury man Alan Knill was appointed as temporary manager. The appointment was initially a success as Knill guided United to safety. He was then given the job on a permanent basis, and that’s when the success quickly dried up. A New Year’s day defeat at Plymouth Argyle was the final straw, and with United sitting 23rd in the league, Knill was sacked and replaced by fans favourite Chris Hargreaves. He’s not had another managerial job since then, but has had opportunities as Chris Wilder’s assistant at Northampton, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough, before becoming part of the Wales staff under Rob Page.
2021 – TORQUAY UNITED 2-3 FC HALIFAX TOWN
Jeff King made amends for giving away two penalties as he scored a late winner to hand Halifax victory over National League leaders Torquay.
Halifax took the lead in the 34th minute through a Sam Sherring own goal. But Torquay were not behind for long as Asa Hall fired them level from the penalty spot four minutes before the break after King was adjudged to have committed a foul. The hosts were awarded another penalty in the 70th minute and captain Hall made no mistake from 12 yards for a second time to give his side the lead. Jack Earing restored parity for Halifax in the 78th minute before King’s effort from the edge of the area 10 minutes later won it for the visitors. Torquay had a four-point lead over second-placed Sutton, having played three games more than the U’s.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Happy birthday to Jean-Yves Koue Niate who turns 30 today. The French centre back joined the Gulls in 2018 and helped the team win promotion back to the National League. He left for Aldershot in 2020, and is now plying his trade for French 5th Division team Entente SSG.
