GULLS MEMORIES FROM THIS DAY IN TIME

2007 – COLIN LEE RETURNS

Colin Lee had played for United in 1977 and then guided the team to a famous great escape at Barnet in 2001, after which he turned down Mike Bateson’s offer to become manager. But in February 2007 Colin returned as Director of Football, appointed by Chris Roberts. Working alongside Keith Curle, Lee could not stop the Gulls getting relegated, but with a new consortium taking charge of the club he was then appointed as the new Chief Executive. This role was a successful one, with Paul Buckle becoming manager and guiding the club back to the Football League in 2009. Lee then left a year later when United decided to cancel the Chief Executive role.
