GULLS MEMORIES FROM THIS DAY IN TIME
2007 – GOODBYE LUBOS
In 2007 Czechoslovakian manager Lubos Kubik resigned as Torquay United manager. His record was P15 W2 D5 L8, with a 13.33% win rate. Kubilk was appointed in November 2006 by new owner Chris Roberts, who had bought out United from Mike Bateson the month before. Lubos was assisted by ex-player Richard Hancox and also by Colin Todd who came in as Director of Football, But the appointment (much like Roberts’ regime) was a failure, with the team only winning 2 games, leading to the parting of ways. Despite incoming manager Keith Curle’s best efforts the club were sadly relegated in 2007, ending United’s long run in the Football League…for a little while at least.

2022 – TORQUAY UNITED 1-0 WREXHAM
Asa Hall’s eighth minute header was enough to secure Torquay United victory over Wrexham in the National League.
Torquay captain Hall rose highest at the back post to meet Armani Little’s curling free-kick and beat Wrexham goalkeeper Rob Lainton. Wrexham captain Luke Young almost levelled straight after the restart but Shaun MacDonald was equal to the effort. Victory moves Torquay up to 11th, while Wrexham drop a place to seventh.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: “It was the type of game we thought it would be; windy, difficult pitch and the set play has separated the two teams on the day. “We couldn’t find that moment to get back in the game. I think if we’d have got one we would have gone on to win the game, but we couldn’t find that quality in our play to unlock the door.”
Torquay XI: MacDonald, Wynter, Martin, Lewis, Moxey, Hall, Little (Holman 79), Wearne, Duke-McKenna (Omar 89), Lapslie, Lemonheigh-Evans Subs Not Used: Halstead, Lolos, Felix Booked: Moxey, Wearne, Holman, Lapslie
