Danny previews the upcoming week, as well as looking at events that happened on this day for the week commencing 12th December.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Saturday – TUFC v Chippenham @ Plainmoor (15.00 KO)
It’s a break from league action this weekend as Chippenham visit in the FA Trophy. The ‘Bluebirds’ have beaten United 3 of the last 4 times, including a friendly, and a double back in the NLS days. Chippenham have struggled for form this season, currently sitting 21st in the NLS, having beaten Hastings in the last round.
Saturday – TUFC U18’s v Bridgwater U18’s @ South Devon College Sports Centre (10.30 KO)
The weather reeked havoc last weekend, resulting in a postponement away at Bath. But the young Gulls’ have an opportunity to make it 5 wins from 6 league games as they host top of the table Bridgwater.
PLAYED FOR BOTH
Ex-United midfielder Jake Andrews had a couple of successful loan spells at Chippenham before his permanent move to Plainmoor in 2019. Yan Klukowski spent his early days in Wiltshire before a move, via several different clubs, to Torquay in 2017. Chris Zebroski spent his later years at Hardenhush Park after 141 appearances for the Gulls’.
Ryan Dickson – Our former midfielder and current U18’s manager will celebrate his 36th birthday on Wednesday. Have a good one Ryan!
Lee Thorpe – The striker-turned-defender will turn 47 on Wednesday.
Steve Woods – The former United captain will celebrate his 46th birthday on Thursday.
ON THIS DAY
15th December 2009 – Elliot Benyon nets a hat-trick as Torquay cruise to a 4-0 victory away at Stockport in the FA Cup.
17th December 2005 – Morike Sako scores ‘that’ goal away at Bristol Rovers to secure a crucial 1-0 victory.
12th December 1995 – It’s a 12 goal thriller at Walsall. Unfortunately for the Gulls’, it finishes 8-4 to the home side.
