OPPOSITION Q&A – Oldham Athletic by Tom O’Dea

OPPOSITION Q&A

Tommy discusses the Latics

WHAT’S GOING WRONG?

So much! Despite having new owners we still inherited some of last seasons deadwood and rushed panicked signings. Shez gave it ago but it just didn’t quite work out. We’ve brought in David Unsworth and it just hasn’t clicked yet, despite being heavily backed in the transfer market.

RECENT FORM

It’s been really bad. From the first couple of games it was clear we needed fresh bodies and were missing key players through injuries. We now have a relatively a strong squad but performances have gotten far worse. Barring the odd game.

HIGHLIGHTS

We’ve had some fun away days but that’s it. We have yet to win away so far this season, we beat National League North side Chester on penalties in the FA Cup that’s it really.

KEY PLAYERS

For me the key players are Liam Hogan, Peter Clarke who recently returned, and top goal-scorer Ben Toillitt.

MANAGER UNDER PRESSURE

Yes he is sadly under pressure, I’ve got behind him and haven’t called for his dismissal. But we cannot keep on playing the way we are. It’s OK his jolly interviews but on the pitch we need wins. He needs to set his sides up more attacking minded, at Maidstone away it shows we can attack and press sides if we want to.

THE LINE-UP

19. Norman 4. Hogan 8 Gardener 11. Hope 14. Sheron 15. Toillett 25 Reid 26. Kitchening 28 Peck 36. Chapman 42. Peter Clarke

PRE-MATCH REFRESHMENTS

Most away fans will park at the Clayton Green, a short walk from where the away end is. It’s a brewers fayre place and has a play area for kids. Our fans bar has welcomed away fans in this year and some fans will opt for the White Hart on Rochdale away at 10min walk from the ground. You also have some good pubs in Oldham town centre – The Fox and Pine and Ashton Arms both a short walk from Oldham Central Tram stop and obviously a Wetherspoons. A taxi will be needed to the ground.

BOUNDARY PARK

Despite our bad run in form our attendances haven’t been that bad. Atmosphere has been mixed the first month or so you feel the buzz, the feel good factor the Athleticos doing a fantastic job and the whole ground bouncing. Sadly the novelty is wearing off with some due to the performances and results on the pitch.

BEST OPPOSITION

Quite a few have impressed, Dorking did and Wealdstone, I didn’t think Woking were a bad team either.

PREDICTION

It’s gotten that bad it’s too hard to predict now!
