Chris discusses talking points ahead of the game at Notts

PLAYER AVAILABILITY

Well, I don’t know how I got to preview this game?! It is really hard to be positive just at the moment but I will try my best. The first challenge will be who can play. I’m hoping that we will have eleven to start. With only four subs again at Eastleigh on Tuesday, along with suspension for Aaron Jarvis and potential injury concerns over Dean Moxey after that fixture, we could be down to the barest of bare bones. We have to hope that Gary has been able to work some magic and bring a couple of new faces in to add numbers, competition for places and quality to this lacking squad.

CONFIDENCE

I know how we as supporters are a feeling about things just at the moment, so heaven only knows what it must be like to be a player pulling on yellow for each game. The challenge with a young group is to keep heads up and keep trying to be true to the process and methods that you are trying to instil as a coach. It’s really hard with the continual chopping and changing to selection and disruption, and it’s even harder when you are bottom of the league and getting beaten more as not. But these players are here to play for Torquay United Football Club. And it’s time that some woke up to that.

THE OPPOSITION

Gulp. Well, I could try and sugar coat it but you can’t argue with facts. Notts County are top of the league, have won their last six and ten of the last eleven games. They have one of the top goal scorers in the country in Macaulay Langstaff who has 17 in 15 ( I daren’t look up the stat of how many more than us collectively that is) and have quality coming out of their ears. And don’t forget two ex-Torquay players in Kyle Cameron and Aaron Nemane. I don’t do betting but I suspect it’s not hugely in our favour.

DISCIPLINE

One of the biggest issues over the last three games has been discipline. You are making life hard for yourself if you are playing with ten men all the time. De Silva may have been harshly treated at Hampton, Marshall was frankly idiotic against Altrincham and has been rightly fined by the club, and Jarvis was asking for trouble and subsequently got it in midweek. This can’t go on. It’s hurting an already difficult situation even more.

HOPE

Quite often as a sports fan, all that you have is hope. And this is one of those situations. Big time. There is no logical explanation that I can present to say how we will get something out of this game. But it’s a funny old game as a lot of people say and you just never know. It’s not in my make up to be able to predict us to lose, so I am going for 2-2. It’s the hope that kills you…….
