Danny previews the upcoming week, as well as looking at events that happened on this day for the week commencing 3rd October.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Monday – FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round Draw

The draw for the 4th QR will be made live on Talksport 2 around 3.15pm. Among the teams the Gulls could face are Plymouth Parkway & Taunton.

Tuesday – TUFC v Maidenhead @ Plainmoor (19.45 KO)

The Gulls return to Plainmoor 3 days after a 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe . 3 points is a must if United are to build any sort of momentum and pull away from the drop zone. The Magpies come into the game of the back of an impressive 2-1 away win at Chesterfield.

Saturday – York v TUFC @ York Community Stadium (15.00 KO)

Torquay face a long trip north trying to improve on their 7 away points gained so far away from Plainmoor. This will be United’s first trip to the impressive new ground which only opened last year.

Saturday – TUFC U18’s v Salisbury U18’s @ South Devon Sports College (10.30 KO)

The Under 18’s return to league action after back to back cup wins. The hosts lost their opening league game 2-0 to Swindon Supermarines.

Sunday – TUWFC v Warminster Town Ladies @ Coach Road (14.00 KO)

The Ladies also return to league action after an impressive 9-1 FA cup win last time out. They host a Warminster side with 4 points from 3 games this campaign.

PLAYED FOR BOTH

Former Gulls’ winger Dan Sparkes has plied his trade with the Magpies for the past few seasons. Nathan Blissett is another who has worn both colours over recent seasons. Current Torquay defender Shaun Donnellan spent last season in Berkshire before his summer switch.

Gulls’ captain Asa Hall had a brief loan spell at York back in 2017. Simon Heslop had spells at both clubs either side of a Wrexham stint. Ryan Jarvis made the switch from Devon to Yorkshire back in 2013.

BIRTHDAYS

David Graham – The former talisman turns 44 on Thursday.

Matt Buse – Former midfielder, now turning out for Gloucester City, will celebrate his 25th birthday on Friday.

Frank O’Farrell – Three time United manager would have celebrated his 95th birthday on Sunday. The former Man Utd & Leicester gaffer sadly passed away earlier this year.

ON THIS DAY

9th October 1991 – John Impey is sacked as manager after just 6 months in the job.

3rd October 1987 – A 16 year old Lee Sharpe makes his debut as he comes on as a sub against Exeter.

7th October 1950 – The Gulls’ record league home attendance of 16,454 against Plymouth.

9th October 1948 – Sammy Collins nets his first United goal in a 2-0 win over Bristol City.

30/04/2022: TUFC 1-1 Maidenhead – Joe Lewis notched in the 90th minute to earn a share of the spoils.

08/12/2020: TUFC 2-1 Maidenhead – Wright and Whitfield score to put the Gulls’ 2 up.

13/08/2019: TUFC 0-2 Maidenhead – An early season defeat for the Yellows.

03/10/2017: TUFC 4-0 Maidenhead – A 4 goal first half blitz gives United a comprehensive win.

17/12/2016: York 0-0 TUFC – Goalless and uneventful.

25/03/2014: York 1-0 TUFC – York edge out the Gulls’ in the League Two clash.

24/11/2011: York 0-2 TUFC – Danny Stevens & Joe Oastler strike to gain all 3 points.

15/11/2008: York 1-2 TUFC – A late Mark Ellis goal secures the win.
