Danny previews the upcoming week, as well as looking at events that happened on this day for the week commencing 26th September.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Saturday – TUFC v Scunthorpe @ Plainmoor (15.00 KO)

An earlier season six-pointer at Plainmoor as bottom of the table Torquay host struggling Scunthorpe. The pressure is building at TQ1 after a less than impressive start to the season. Anything other than 3 points will be disastrous for the Gulls as they look to climb out of the bottom 4. Scunny recorded their first win since the opening day, with a 3-2 victory over Dorking.

It will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2014.

Saturday – Wimborne Town U18’s v TUFC U18’s @ The Blandford School (10.30 KO)

It’s League Cup week for Ryan Dickson’s side as they travel to Wimborne. The young Gulls’ will be looking to build on last weekends empathetic 8-1 Devon Youth Cup victory.

Sunday – Feniton Women v TUWFC @ Feniton Playing Fields (14.00 KO)

It’s also Cup week for the Ladies’ as they travel to Feniton. Steve Elswood’s side are on the up after back to back league victories.

PLAYED FOR BOTH

Current front-man Aaron Jarvis spent two seasons at Glandford Park before completing a switch to Plainmoor this summer. Ex Scotland international Matt Elliott made 158 appearances for United before moving to the Iron in 1992. Andy McFarlane was another to switch claret and blue for yellow back in 1997.

BIRTHDAYS

Toby Ajala – The former Gulls’ winger will turn 31 on Tuesday.

Nicky Wroe – The 130 appearance maker will celebrate his 37th birthday on Wednesday.

Rodney Jack – The ex-St Vincent’s international & Gulls legend will celebrate the big 50 on Wednesday.

Kevin Nicholson – Talking of legends, Nicho will celebrate his 42nd birthday on Sunday.

ON THIS DAY

28th September 2015 – Kevin Nicholson is appointed manager, leaving his role at Bath City.

2nd October 2012 – The Gulls’ recover from 3-0 down, to beat Aldershot 4-3 in an epic encounter.

30th September 1989 – Cyril Knowles resigns after a breakdown in relationship with the Chairman Lew Pope.

2nd October 1982 – Hartlepool end the match with 8 players, as the Gulls’ win 3-2 at Plainmoor.

1st October 1910 – Torquay embark on their first ever FA Cup campaign. They beat Green Waves 2-0 in the second qualifying round.
