PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Ross Warner
Ross discusses the top Gulls for August
As we leave a fairly unsatisfactory August behind, I’ve tried to find our 5 diamonds out of the rough. The new players haven’t lived up to our expectations and many haven’t turned up at all !! Whilst Rhys Lovett has stepped in well due to Mark Halstead’s injury and Brett McGavin and Will Goodwin have been ok, others need to step up quickly. I expect my ears to burn with this one..
1 – DEAN MOXEY
This was a given to be honest. Mr Reliable in defence and gets forward to get attacks going. Useful long throw adds a dimension to our attack and plenty of experience. Not quite on the ball against Woking but with 2 games in 3 days, Father Time may have caught up. Gives all for 90 minutes and not frightened to put his body on the line.
MAN OF THE MATCH – OLDHAM, BROMLEY, BOREHAM WOOD AND MAIDSTONE!
2 – MARK HALSTEAD
A changed man from last season, stepped up and deserves the number 1 jersey. Saves he made this season would have been goals last season. He was a big factor to why we had clean sheets and 4 points and defeats were by 1 nil. Unlucky to get injured at Maidstone. Better with crosses and has confidence finally. Hopefully the form continues when he returns to fitness.
MAN OF THE MATCH – HALIFAX
3 – ALI OMAR
The ever popular defender has made a massive improvement on last season. Although not the finished item, he’s proved he’s better prepared to deal with attacks. Still prone to slips in concentration but clearances are better. He looks quite dangerous when attacking dead balls and corners, and a fantastic pin point cross for the goal against Woking. I’m sure he’ll continue to improve as the season goes on.
MAN OF THE MATCH – WOKING FC

4 – TOM LAPSLIE
Although injury prone, when he’s on the pitch he adds some much needed bite to midfield. Suited to a more defensive midfield position, he never stops chasing and harassing the opposition. Short cameo from the bench at Maidstone when not fully fit cost us as he was injured shortly after. His passing is a little suspect but you can’t question his work rate. Did he start the season fully fit ??
5 – THE YELLOW ARMY!
Yes I know, we don’t get on the pitch without risking a ban, but, how valuable are we ??!! The noise and support from the Plainmoor faithful or the great support which travels across the country and even from across the sea is a credit to a club our size. The Yellow Army deserve a mention as the 12th man and squad number 99. Yes we moan but we are loud and largely behind the lads. And ( I believe) we got Man Of The Match against Oldham !! Thanks Thea !! Anyone one seen the bottle of bubbly ??
