TALKING NATIONAL LEAGUE
Well yellow army what a great result for The Gulls away at Halifax! In a game where I would have certainly settled for a point before kick-off but ended up coming away with all 3 thanks to a Brett McGavin strike on the stroke of half time and another 5 star display from goalkeeper Mark Halstead!
These much welcome 3 points will do us the world of good going into the Bromley away game on Tuesday. It definitely wasn’t a pretty win but we stood firm and I feel as if this was last season we would have ended up losing that game. Gary has brought it some tougher and stronger lads which has helped us massively today!
Elsewhere in the National League today there was a well played out 2-2, draw between Notts County and Boreham Wood with Notts’ “Portuguese wonderkid” Ruben Rodrigues scoring a penalty! Bromley and Altrincham played out a snooze fest 0-0 draw. Chesterfield edged a 1-0 win at home to Aldershot thanks to a goal from Liam Mandeville.
Likewise, Eastleigh also edged a 1-0 win at home to Wealdstone (who I predicted would struggle this season anyways). Barnet made the long slog of a journey up to Gateshead and came away with a 2-2 draw, with ex Gull Ben Wynter playing 90 minutes. (I so wish we had kept him). There was definitely a shock at York Road where Maidenhead came out 3-2 winners against the newly relegated Scunthorpe who are probably much fancied to finish around the top 7 places this season! Maidstone helped themselves to a narrow 2-1 win against York.
Solihull Moors were held to a 1-1- draw at home to Southend! Both of those sides you would think be up there or thereabouts at the end of the season! Woking ran out 2-0 winners against Dagenham and Redbridge who again are a tough side to play at times. I look forward to our home game against Woking on Bank Holiday Monday! Always nice to beat them.
Yeovil did well to earn a point against Hollywood FC. Sorry I mean Wrexham! Who basically pay their players EFL wages and they still can’t win games in this league! 🤣🤣. The late game in the National League saw Oldham beat Dorking Wanderers (yes they are actually a team and not a Fantasy football team name) , Oldham came out winners 3-2.
Of course the most important result of the day was Torquay picking up those well earned 3 points back from West Yorkshire. Would be nice if we can also get all 3 away to Bromley on Tuesday.
