Joe looks back over the talking points for TUFC 0-0 Boreham Wood
Asa at centre half
Asa Hall’s move to centre back was a master-stroke against Wrexham, and one that caught them off guard. Asa dominated Wrexham’s 300k new signing Ollie Palmer and nullified his aerial threat.
GJ looked to replicate that last night but I’m not sure the way Boreham Wood set up warranted the change, as they didn’t look threatening aerially all game. With Stephen Wearne looking anonymous throughout in the middle of the park, I can’t help feeling that Asa may have given us the edge in the midfield battle had he been pushed further forward.
Joe Lewis – the immovable object
Joe was solid as a rock again, heading and kicking away everything that Boreham Wood threw at us. It will be a crying shame if we potentially lose him in the summer for nothing apart from a token sum and he is IMO is the most important player to retain for next season.
“You don’t know what you’re doing!”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an inept referee performance from a game that did not have even one big call to make. His willingness to let the game flow meant numerous late tackles, shoves went unpunished and spoilt any potential for a good game of football. Bristow’s Bench certainly made their feelings clear at both half time and full time!
No game changers on the bench
From the moment the starting line-up and subs bench was announced it was clear that any match winners were going to need to come from the starting eleven. I don’t remember a single game where those who were on the bench last night have come on and changed a game this season (Felix, Lolos, Johnson, Omar, Halstead) and that is a major symptom of the rushed recruitment drive last summer.
Looking forward it appears increasingly likely that our season will be finished by mid-April & so hopefully knowing what division we will be playing in early enough will allow GJ to do his business quickly and July’s #ManicMonday announcement will include a couple players of higher calibre than this year’s did.
