With Gameday 1 being somewhat of a disappointment, The Gulls have a chance for redemption as they travel to Meadow Lane. We have a look at what’s in store at TUFC HQ this coming week.
What’s happening this week……
Saturday – Notts County v TUFC @ Meadow Lane (3pm KO)
Hoping to bounce back from the opening day misery, the Gulls make the much anticipated trip to Nottingham looking to grab their first points of the season. A strong contingent of the yellow army should be in attendance with the added spice of an ex player or 2 in the opposing line up. TUFC failed to lose to County last season, after beating them superbly in the Play Off semis 4-2.
Sunday – TUFC Women v Plymouth Argyle Women U23’s
Grant Fisher’s women take on Argyle in their latest pre-season match, hoping to build on their impressive recent results.
Birthdays
Leroy Rosenior – The former gaffer will be celebrating his 57th Birthday on Tuesday. Hard to believe it’s been 17 years since THAT day at Roots Hall.
Dan Butler – The Isle of Wight born Left Back turns 27 on Thursday. The former Gull is currently tearing it up in the Championship with Peterborough.
Elliot Benyon – Ex Striker Benyon will be burning 34 candles on Sunday. He now plays for Oxford City in the NL South.
On this day……
24th August 2019 – Jamie Reid scores a belter in front of the BT cameras as Torquay beat Aldershot 2-0.
29th August 2015 – Danny Wright scores twice and Aaron Downes once as United are defeated 3-0 at home to Cheltenham.
28th August 2010 – United finally concede a goal away at Port Vale, thus ending a club record of not conceding a goal for 998 minutes.
26th August 1963 – Didn’t take long for Stubbs to open his account, as he scores in a 4-1 win away at Hartlepool. 2 days previously he had made his debut against Tranmere.
23rd August 1958 – Torquay compete in their first ever match in a National League. The Gulls travelled to Chester in the newly created 4th Division.
27th August 1927 – Torquay host Exeter in their first ever Football League match in front of a crowd of 10,749.
A trip down memory lane..
26th August 2002 – Division 3
Venue: St James Park
Attendance: 6,065
Exeter City 1-2 Torquay
United Line up: Dearden, Woolley, Hazell, Canoville, Fowler, Hankin, Hill, Russell, Bedeau, Graham, Richardson
The Gulls secured their second win of the season over local rivals Exeter City on their own patch. First half goals from David Graham and Tony Bedeau were the difference that day. A certain Lee Sharpe was on the hosts team sheet, one of only 4 appearances he made for the Grecians.
