TT TRANSFER SPECULATION

Dom Roman – @DomRoman

All eyes on Plainmoor tomorrow, as Gary Johnson looks to tied up new signings, and with 7 or 8 muted it may be a stampede! I’m sure they’ll be plenty of social media refreshing going on from the Yellow Army. Meanwhile let’s speculate on who could be amongst the incomings…

Lewis Ward – Unattached

Keeper Lewis Ward started his career at Reading, but was loaned out to a number teams including Northampton and Forest Green, before signing a two year deal with Exeter City in the summer of 2019. Ward struggled to establish himself at St James Park and was loaned out to Portsmouth last season, remaining firmly planted on the subs bench at Fratton Park. The Grecians paid an undisclosed fee for the goalkeeper two years ago, so must have identified promise in the lad. Perhaps the 24 year-old’s potential could flourish at Plainmoor.

Mark Halstead – Unattached

Another keeper! Halstead came through the youth ranks at Blackpool and was loaned out to a few teams before leaving for Shrewsbury in 2014. He struggled to command a regular place in the line-up and eventually left for non league Southport in 2017, before then spending three years at Morecambe from 2018-21. Overall the goalkeeper has yet to prove himself properly anywhere, only playing just over 100 games in 12 years as a professional. The links have been strong for this chap, so Gary Johnson may see him as a punt worth taking, even if it just as the 2nd choice goalkeeper.

Sam Sherring – AFC Bournemouth

No need to introduce you to this guy! There’s very little chance of Sam Sherring being unveiled this week….but Gary Johnson has clearly stated that United have registered their interest in the defender, and apparently Sam could indeed be keen. One to watch as the season start approaches and a few loan signings are made. It would be a massive signing if it happens, so fingers very much crossed.

Luke Molyneux – Hartlepool

Another player linked repeatedly over recent weeks is Luke Molyneux. Ex-Sunderland youth player Luke came to our attention when he scored the winner for the Monkey Hangers at Plainmoor in early March, but dropped out of the first team as the season progressed and only played sparingly as substitute in the play-offs (let’s not talk about them). Rumour has it that Dave Challinor has not been impressed by the midfielder’s work rate at Victoria Park, and any transfer would need a fee (yes an actual fee) to be paid by United. But if Gary Johnson is keen enough then this one could happen.
