TT Opposition Q&A – Yeovil Town by Adam Barrington

Adam discusses his team Yeovil Town

Hi Adam so how have the club coped with the difficulties of 2020 and have the fans played their part?

Well it’s been a very difficult year, which I know many clubs up and down the country have felt the same. Over £50,000 was raised from fans on Crowd Funder for Yeovil to help with finances, with a % of that going to the Yeovil hospital charity. Also I know players took a pay cut for a period of time to help with the situation.

It’s been a surprisingly poor start for Yeovil, what’s been going wrong?

With a similar squad from last season and a few additions, not what most fans expected. Not wanting to fill this with excuses, but if I had to pick some faults, lack of pace has been a major issue, with many teams exploiting this. Also we’ve played too much hoof ball at times with no plan b. And 100% no fans in attendance haven’t helped,

We have been creating enough chances to win games but we have not been clinical enough. Recently we have added a few new additions which gives us the pace upfront, wide and in defence, so this should hopefully help with the issues we’ve had so far.

How’s your most recent form been heading into the Xmas fixtures?

Well we finally won our first game of the season against Bromley, when we played extremely well, and the new additions made the difference. Then our next game against Notts County was postponed due to COVID and we haven’t played since 8th December.

What’s been your highlights of the season so far?

With so many poor performances it has to be win against Bromley, because I do think it will be our turning point of the season. Also I’m thankful the actual season started after all the major doubts.

Who are your key players and why?

Matty Warburton, who is on loan from Northampton, is a stand out player. We are extremely lucky to have him, as he should be playing in leagues above. Matty plays just behind the front line or sometimes out wide.

Rhys Murphy – Danger front man, can score goals from nothing. Think you might remember him from last season.

Charlie Lee – Commands the middle of the pitch and makes everything tick.

Who is your manager and is he under pressure at Huish Park?

Manager is Darren Sarll, first season guided us to the playoffs but this season as said above has struggled. I know he is trying his best to make things work again. He’s got the backing from most of the supporters and I’m sure the players trust him.

Have you made it back to games yet prior to the latest tier announcement and if so, how good was it to return?

Nope sadly still haven’t seen a live game, Nott County would have been the first for us, so the online stream is the best I’ve experienced so far.

Looking ahead to the game in Somerset, what should we expect from the live stream?

Started off with few issues but has improved as season gone on. Think you will be happy with the stream ,just hopefully not the result.

Who’s been the best opposition players and teams you’ve faced so far?

Well my opinion so far has to be Sutton, a well organised team.

Players – H Beautyman for Sutton , always scores against us and think he deserves to play league above. J Rooney for Stockport – Very skilful player, who can defiantly find a pass.

Are you confident the Glovers will climb the table this season?

Yes 100%, with the new additions I think we can start to put a run together. Many other managers and players have said were in a false position, just got to prove them right now, but covid issues aren’t helping. Fingers crossed we can finish the season.

And finally, the Yellow Army have been looking forward to a chance to avenge last year’s Boxing Day defeat – but what do you think the scores will be in the two games?

With how well you’re currently doing, it’s going to be difficult. Boxing Day I’m going go with a 2-2 draw and back at Huish Park 1-0 to Yeovil.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and happy new year and all the best, apart from the two games against us.
