Profile – Justin Fashanu made the trip down to Plainmoor in November 1991 as the Gulls looked to the high-profile ex-Notts Forest front man for inspiration in Division Three. The striker did his best for the struggling side, scoring 10 goals – but could not prevent United dropping back down to Division Four. By then Fashanu had been made assistant manager, and kept that role into the 1992-93 season under new boss Paul Compton. With Torquay struggling again, Justin applied for the vacant managerial job at Plainmoor in early 1993 but was overlooked in favour of Neil Warnock and left soon after – joining Airdrie in Scotland

Profile – Alex Fisher joined Paul Cox at United in the summer of 2015 after being released by Mansfield. The striker started well at Plainmoor, scoring on his debut versus Macclesfield Town and then against Halifax. The tall striker then struggled with injuries and as Cox was replaced by Kevin Nicholson, Fisher fell out of favour and left by mutual consent in December 15. Alex turned up at Inverness Caledonian Thistle shortly after and has most recently been representing Exeter City.

Profile – Mark Ford started his career as a youngster at Leeds United and played in their FA Youth Cup Final team in 1993. He then spent time at Burnley and in Belgian football before signing on a Bosman free transfer for United in 2000. The combative midfielder soon made his mark at Plainmoor and took the captaincy on for the Gulls. Unfortunately Ford’s stay in Devon was short-lived and he headed back up north in February 2001 to sign for Darlington.

Profile – Adrian Foster first signed professional forms at West Brom in July 1989 and went onto play 27 league games for the team from the Hawthorns. Foster was allowed to leave the club in 1992 and was brought down to Plainmoor by Paul Compton, as the Gulls looked to adjust to life back in Division Four. The team continued to struggle but the striker found the target 28 times in the proceeding two seasons, before leaving for Gillingham in the summer of 1994.

Profile – Fowler was signed by Roy McFarland from Cardiff City in 2001 and the elegant midfielder soon impressed the Plainmoor faithful with his ability on the ball and quick thinking. The midfielder unfortunately struggled with fitness in the next four years, but forged an excellent partnership with Alex Russell when available and played a part in the 2003-04 promotion campaign. Fowler sadly had to retire from football in 2005 due to arthritis in his hips.
