The TT #TUFC Review of 2017 – Part 2 (May-Dec)

MAY-JULY (Pre-Season)

6th May – Rowcroft Hospice Charity match sees ‘Compo’s Boys’ take on the 2004 Promotion Team @ Plainmoor – the likes of Kevin Hill, Guy Branston, Tom Kelly and Tony Bedeau turn up for a very worthwhile cause.

17th May – Ruairi Keating is one the first to commit to another season at United.

25 & 27th May – Luke Young and Sean McGinty both sign new deals to remain at Plainmoor.

1st June – Brett Williams decides his future lies elsewhere and ends up signing for Bromley.

13th June – Josh Gowling and Jon-Paul Pittman arrive at Plainmoor.

28th June – Torbay Council postpone any decision on TUFC purchasing the freehold of Plainmoor.

4th July – The new TUFC 2017-18 kits are revealed with the Nike swish prominent. The partnership with Pro:Direct at least hints at better deals being negotiated by the club.

12th July – TUFC 2-0 Bristol City – pre-season fixtures aren’t always a good indicator of what’s to come!

27th July – Ex-Argyle veteran striker and ice-cream salesman Rory Fallon joins the club, and fans are not impressed (rightly so)!

The start of a new season – Tranmere 5th Aug

3rd – Josh Gowling is revealed as the new TUFC club captain.

5th – United start the season with 0-0 draw at home to Tranmere. The away team has two men sent-off in an ill-tempered second half.

15th – Boreham inflict a crushing 4-2 defeat on the Gulls, as the men in yellow slump to a 3rd successive defeat.

17th – United sack Kevin Nicholson only four games into the 2017-18 season. The Gulls legend departs with the team bottom of the table, and fans are divided on whether it is the right decision. It is a sad end to Nicho’s time as manager and no replacement is imminent as the club invite applications from anyone. Robbie Herrera is put in temporary charge.

28th – Woking thrash managerless United 4-1, to hand us a 6th straight defeat. Meanwhile Geoff Harrop assures fans that an appointment will be made, as soon as the right candidate is found.

19 & 22nd – Owers brings in Rhys Murphy and Josh McQuoid on loan to bolster the side’s attacking options…

30th – Another late goal sees United defeated at Dagenham & Redbridge, as the new management duo get an idea of the size of the job at hand.
