Summary:
Snatching defeat again from the jaws of victory. We hit new lows by not only losing a lead, but losing the lead to a poor team; who spend much of the second half with 10 men. The two Guiseley goals are totally avoidable and it’s despair and crisis time at Plainmoor. Meanwhile fans un-rest is heard around the ground, with boos at full-time.
Player Ratings (out of 10):
Moore 5 Gallifuoco 6 Anderson 5 McGinty 5 Rowe-Turner 5
Lathrope 5 Young 9 Sparkes 7 Verma 6 Reid 5
Williams 7
Subs: Harrad 4 Chaney 4 Keating N
TU Goals:
Aman Verma bangs a cracking shot from 25 yards, that hits the right post and tucks inside the other side of the netting. Easily one of our best goals this season, and an unexpected moment of class from the midfielder!
Man of the match:
Luke Young. No contest! The midfielder is a different gravy to his colleagues (Sparkes apart) and is back to his best. Dynamic, quick to the ball and pinging passes around – plus also cajoling others. His performance deserved more and he is exempted from the booing at the end (rightly so).
Tactics:
Still 3 in midfield, but Luke and Verma rotating more in support of Brett. GG fills in at right back. Overall everything works ok (until the second half collapse) and the chances are created in the first half to finish the match – but not taken. Harrad is again chosen as sub ahead of Keating, not sure why.
Key moment:
1st half injury time – Sparkes has a very acceptable chance through on goal, and does hit the target; only to be denied by a decent keeper save around the post. A crucial moment.
Player Spotlight:
Dan Sparkes. The winger had a dreadful game against Sutton, but is much more lively this week – winning his battle against their right back, creating opportunities and showing busy running off the ball as usual.
Final Whistle Conclusions:
1 – We play better and still lose. Depressing stuff and the fans patience is at breaking point – even in the normally polite Bristows Bench.
2 – New owners, new general manager, new scout = new players??
3 – Nico under big pressure, what next? I doubt GI will sack him, however he has to get results very soon. Conference South…no thank you.
