Two points from two games since my last VFB was written. Overall that haul is probably a fair reflection of our performances against Macclesfield and Barrow. We started the game at Plainmoor so sluggishly even my patience was wearing thin, but an improved second half capped off by a towering goal from Sean got us a valuable point.
As for the long away trip up north, it was a solid point against a solid team! McGinty and the defence stood firm for the travelling Yellow Army, and whilst I wouldn’t exactly celebrate a dull nil-nil; it was more than most thought we would get at 3pm. Unfortunately we don’t make it through games without an injury at the moment and Gareth Law’s treatment room revolving door continues. No sooner do Luke and Damon come back and the skipper picks up a problem; get well soon Courtney.
At least the squad has been added to recently. The assured Myles is looking like a really good addition to the team, and has settled in comfortably alongside McGinty. Meanwhile Keating has had a sniff of action, and young Crichlow might get a look in today. Welcome options for Nico, though it’s well documented he’s after a target man.
Next I’d like to mention the TU Community Sports Trust and the splendid work they’ve been doing. Kevin has always made it clear that he wants the club to reach out more to the community, and on half-term week the boys and girls looked like they had cracking time. Well done to all concerned for their efforts in this area, and I hope those youngsters come along to Plainmoor soon. Now if they can be tempted to switch their Premiership shirts for Torquay United ones; that would be terrific!
Last weekend the National League really made headlines didn’t it! Lincoln and Sutton helped bring back the magic (and pie eating) to the FA Cup and advertised the quality there is outside the league. No doubt Sutton will give us a tough game today, so it’s up to us to hit the ground running. First halves haven’t been our speciality recently; time to change that!
It is coming to crunch time, and we really need points on the board to avoid another relegation (the dreaded R word) scrap. I’ve seen far too many over the years that’s for sure (in fact I’ve lost count!). So join me in supporting the boys as usual and hopefully we can push up the league.
Come on you yellows!
