THE TT WEEKLY BLOG 20th Feb 17: One Step Forward…

The Latest Independent Views on YOUR TEAM

1 – One Step Forward at Barrow  A solid point gained from our long trip up North. The three points could have been ours (see our Match Verdict from Luke Hunter), but an inability to takes chances away from home continues to haunt the team (and me!). However, most of us would have taken a point before wouldn’t we? It’s one step forward (let’s not get over-excited about a 0-0 draw), can we please avoid taking two back next week?!

2 – Replacing Courtney  So it’s looks like Richards is out for a while after Saturday’s injury. To be honest the mix in midfield of Damon and Courtney has not been great –  neither get forward much, so support to the strikers is limited. It’s obviously disappointing to lose the skipper, however this could be a blessing in disguise for Nico.  I like Richards but his play has not been befitting of a captain (sorry for kicking a man whilst he’s down!), and you get the feeling if he hadn’t been captain the midfielder may have been dropped anyway. Luke was more like his old self at the weekend so he automatically comes back in; meanwhile Verms has to get up in support, as Damon is probably less likely to score than Brendan!

3 – 5 Year Plan… The silence was momentarily broken last week at Plainmoor, as Geoff Harrow spoke to the HE. There was still talk of the 5 year plan, forum etc. All concentration must be on the team and this season (something Geoff mentioned). We are on the cusp of another relegation dogfight and the whole club must find focus. GI are not obliged to support Nico hugely budget wise, but surely they do not want to be owners of a Conference South club.

4 – TU Community Trust  Good news story alert: United have stepped up efforts with the kids (they are the future after all!). Encouraging tweets showed the boys and girls enjoying themselves at half term, and training one day with the lads. This has always been on Nico’s TUFC bucket list and credit to him and the Trust team for making progress. Now if only more of them would wear Torquay United shirts (rather than Chelsea, Arsenal etc)!

5 – @TORQUAYTALK  The site is steadily inching forward! I am now being assisted by other fans to vary the content, and believe there’s a nice blend of items now available. Similar to Nico’s vision for United, my aim is that the site will evolve (and improve) over time! More to come this week (we’re spoiling you!), including the programme articles on Saturday – which involves my ‘View from Bristow’s’ and the ‘A-Z’ regular feature (S on this occasion).

I’ll be at Plainmoor on Saturday as per usual for the Sutton game; same seat, same beer beforehand, same anguish at misplaced passes and same excited goal celebration (if applicable). It would be nice if you join me!

PS The travelling YELLOW ARMY rule (but we knew that already)!
